Police Reference Checks
All school volunteers in Ontario except those students enrolled in a TDSB school must obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check (VSC) via the Toronto Police Service. The intent of this legislation is to ensure that schools and classrooms are safe places for students. The cost of the initial VSC is at the volunteer’s expense. Forms for these checks are available in the main office. To help facilitate this process, parents interested in volunteering may pay the fee in cash and complete the form in the main office. After the initial VSC, the volunteer must have their records updated every two years by completing an Offence Declaration.
Parent and Community Volunteers
Lucy Maud Montgomery Public School values the tremendous contributions of parent and community volunteers. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities including coaching, fundraising, and tutoring students with reading. If you require more information or to volunteer, please contact the main office.
Secondary Student Volunteers
High school students may volunteer at Lucy Maud Montgomery Public School during regular school hours provided that they make an arrangement with a teacher before commencing volunteer activities and the teacher informs the school office in writing of the arrangement prior to the start of the volunteer work. Volunteer students must remain under the direct of the supervising teacher at all times.
Co-op, Teacher and ECE Candidates
Co-op, teacher candidates and Early Childhood Educator (ECE) candidates are required to complete practicum training in schools. We welcome these individuals as they enrich the learning experience for our students. Before permitting teacher or ECE candidates into a classroom, all TDSB schools, including Lucy Maud Montgomery require proof of a satisfactory police screening.
