Mountview Alternative School

School Safety Protocol

  • All adults must wear visitor tags or TDSB identification
  • Parents who wish to see a teacher or sign out their child, must inform office staff who will then call the classroom. Do not go up to the classroom.

Terry Fox: We have now reached $700 towards our fundraising goal of $1000 for the Terry Fox campaign. There is still time to donate directly to the Terry Fox Foundation to support this worthy cause. https://schools.terryfox.ca/MountviewAlternativeSchool. Way to go!

Mountview is a community of five classrooms.  The small community fosters deep, meaningful relationships with one another. In this interactive setting, the aim is for each student to share their unique abilities and perspectives with one another. For our collaborative staff, the close relationships achieved in this setting allows us to gain multiple perspectives on the strengths and needs of each student.

We are always looking for ways to strengthen our community, not only within the individual classrooms and in the school, but also within the broader local community and the world.

 A New Chapter

We are in our third year at Runnymede Collegiate Institute, which makes us only one of two elementary schools to share a building with a high school in the TDSB! Our outdoor space is also complete, and supports lots of wonderful outdoor learning!

What We Do

  • A Community of Classrooms:  Teachers collaborate with each other and each student to support both individual learning needs and the school community.  Teachers regularly rotate classrooms to work on enrichment and project-based learning.
  • Equity:  Our school is diverse and integrated, enrolling students through a lottery based system, aimed at creating a school which is reflective of the community we serve.
  • Self-Directed Learning:  Based on the individual needs, backgrounds and strengths of every child, we collaborate with students to design individually tailored, high-interest projects.
  • Parental Involvement: Parents are an integral part of our school community, and they have opportunities throughout the year to contribute to the school community through cross-grade friendship assemblies, field trips, school concerts and volunteering in classrooms.
  • Building and Developing Community Partnerships:  Runnymede Collegiate Institute, Humbercrest Nursery School, Right to Play
