School Code of Conduct

North Agincourt School Code of Conduct

At North Agincourt, we collectively strive to ensure that our school is a space of belonging and enjoyment. We expect that all our students, staff and families are valued, represented, seen and heard.  We strive to ensure that North Agincourt is a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment.  We also strive to ensure that every student has a caring adult.

A  school code of conduct is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.  We use the TDSB’s character education traits to guide positive interactions among students.   We expect students to show respect for one another, for adults and for school property.  Naturally, conflicts will occur, and that is when we use a restorative practices framework to address the behaviour.  Our goal is to mediate and restore relationships.  If this does not work, we use progressive discipline to determine consequences.

The TDSB has policies that outline very clearly the consequences of inappropriate student behaviour.  Physical violence, harassment, bullying or exclusion of any kind will not be tolerated.

Standards of Behaviour

All members of the school community are expected to:

  • treat one another with dignity and respect at all times
  • accept responsibility for personal choices and actions
  • care for school property and the property of others
  • respect differences in people, their ideas, and opinions
  • demonstrate honesty and integrity, especially when there is a disagreement
  • safely help those in need
  • respect people who are in a position of authority

Student Responsibilities

  • To show respect for themselves and others, the school and its property, and the property of others
  • To arrive to school on time, prepared and ready to learn
  • To refrain from behaving in any manner which may compromise the safety of others
  • To follow the established rules and take responsibility for their own actions

Parent/Family Responsibilities

  • To support the efforts of school staff in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students
  • To become familiar with the school’s code of conduct and supporting their children to follow these guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment
  • To ensure their children attend school regularly, on time and prepared to learn
  • To communicate regularly with the school and to promptly report their child’s absence or late arrival

Staff Responsibilities

  • To show respect for themselves and others, the school and its property, and the property of others
  • To offer a quality educational experience to all students and support them to work to their full potential
  • To maintain consistent standards of behaviour for all students
  • To communicate regularly and meaningfully with parents

Progressive Discipline

When students breach the code of conduct, consequences will be consistent with progressive discipline techniques. Progressive discipline is a whole-school approach that utilizes a continuum of interventions, supports, and consequences to address inappropriate student behaviour and to build on strategies that promote positive behaviours.  When inappropriate behaviour occurs, disciplinary measures should be applied within a framework that shifts the focus from one that is solely punitive to one that is both corrective and supportive. Schools should utilize a range of interventions, supports, and consequences that include learning opportunities for reinforcing positive behaviour while helping students to make good choices.

Online Code of Conduct

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is committed to providing students and staff with access to the Internet through the Board’s computer network. The Internet is a rich source of information and opportunities to enhance student learning.  However, increased access to the Internet raises issues that must be addressed and understood.

The Toronto District School Board Code of Online Conduct applies to students, staff, and all other users of electronic resources accessed through the facilities of the TDSB, including the Internet. The Code of Conduct includes sections covering Personal Safety Rules, Unacceptable Sites and Materials, Use Guidelines, Prohibited Uses and Activities, Online Publishing, and Liability.

The Board expects that all users (students and adults) will be responsible for their use of the Internet through the facilities provided by the Board.
