Can I visit Northview to learn more about the HMST program and take a tour of the school?

  • Due to the current health protocols we regret to announce that there will be no in-person school visit this year. A virtual tour including a video will be available on the Virtual Specialty Programs Night where we welcome all grade 8 students and their families to learn more about HMST and the other programs we offer at Northview. 
  • Virtual Specialty Programs Night is on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 6:30 pm.
  • Virtual Grade 8 Night is on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 6:30 pm.​


Is there a fee to apply to the HMST program or to write the entrance exam?

  • There is no fee to apply to the HMST program.  However, if you are accepted to the program, you will be required to pay an annual HMST Enrichment and Activity fee.


How are students for the Northview HMST program selected?
The following criteria are considered for the Northview HMST selection:

  • Completed Application Form
    • Self reflection profile (in the application)
    • Academic Performance: Combined minimum average of 80% in Grade 7 with a minimum recommended mark of 80% in Mathematics and a minimum recommended mark of 80% in Science with very good learning skills
  • Performance on the HMST Entrance Exam


Are calculators allowed on the HMST Entrance Exam?

  • Yes, calculators are allowed on the HMST Entrance Exam.


Will my score on the exam be revealed to me during the selection process?

  • Students will not receive the results of the entrance examination. There are many aspects of the application that are taken into consideration during the selection process. Due to the large number of applicants, we are unable to provide individual feedback on any aspect of their application. 


When will I know whether I am accepted into the program?

  • All applicants will be emailed regarding their admission status (acceptance or non-acceptance) on February 11, 2022, according to the TDSB Optional Attendance Policy.  We kindly request all parents and applicants not to email or phone us directly inquiring about the admission status of the applicant, due to the high volume of applicants.
