Dear Parents,
Parkfield J.S. takes great pride in its multicultural community and has settlement services to assist newcomer parents and their families with the settlement process. The Settlement & Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) is a partnership between the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), Toronto Public Library, social service agencies in Toronto and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Its purpose is to provide free and confidential assistance to new immigrants and others to settle and integrate easily into their new country. Information and referral to community resources, English classes, employment, childcare, social assistance, health services, E.I. and subsidized housing are just some of the many services that an in-school settlement worker can assist you with.
Bharti Lokre is the school settlement worker for Parkfield J.S. She speaks English, Hindi, Urdu and Marathi and has a good understanding of Punjabi and Gujarati. Bharti is also able to connect you to Settlement Workers that speak many other languages, some examples are; Arabic, Somali, Spanish, Mandarin, Dari, Russian, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Tamil and Farsi.
