Spaceship Landing at Topcliff

Spaceship Landing at Topcliff  Spaceship Landing at Topcliff  Spaceship Landing at Topcliff  With the help of Story Planet in Toronto, Topcliff students enjoyed a spectacular display of a crashed alien spaceship in our school yard late in April.  Who are these visitors?  Why are they here?  How might we help them at Topcliff?  These are only a few of the many questions that our students asked.  This was part of our school-wide week-long celebration of Literacy where students were able to explore their curiosity and creativity and create original narratives about this crash site.  Students explored various narrative forms and created original news articles, comics and stories.  Stay tuned for some of these published writing pieces from our students from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  Happy writing Topcliff!

Toy Drive for Sick Kids Hospital

For the second year in the row, our ForKicks team organized a toy drive to support Sick Kids Foundation and their toy drive.  The team along with parent volunteers popped and sold popcorn for over a week and raised $300.  The team went out to buy a selection of toys and then travelled down to the hospital to make a toy donation on behalf of our Topcliff community.  Way to go Topcliff!  Thank-you Ms. Ferretti, Mr. Hyatt, Ms. Mouland and Ms. Bourassa for supporting the students by taking them shopping and to the hospital.

Henna Party

Many of our students celebrate different festivities throughout the year.  As a way to learn more about Eid and Diwali, a group of teachers and parent volunteers organized a Henna party for our students.  During this event, students were invited to get their hands painted in traditional Henna style.  What a fun way to learn about each others' cultures and festivities!

Check out Topcliff's Anti-bullying door decorating contest!  We have been talking about and learning about bullying and bullying prevention all school year.  With the support of the school's Caring and Safe Schools Committee, classes demonstrated their learning by creating creative messages on their doors.  Great positive messages Topcliff!
