 Safety Reminders for Parents

The W. G. Davis Staff members and Safe and Caring Schools Committee would like to thank those hardy Canadian families who brave all weather and continue to walk to school. You are doing your part to keep our school safe!  Also, thank you for sending your children well-prepared for the cold weather.  A spare pair of mittens and socks are helpful for all students to have in their bags in case they are lost or get wet.

Please know that the Kindergarten area is NOT a thoroughfare for students/parents to walk through to get to the back of the school. The Kindergarten area is gated and designated for JK/SK students and parents only. Students in Grade 1-6 must go around the north side of the school to arrive at their doors.

If you must drive, here are some reminders to parents/caregivers that can also keep our community safe:

Staff Supervision:  Staff members are assigned to supervision on the yard (Grade 1-6) at 8:30 every morning. If you drop off your child(ren) grade 1-6 at 8:30 they will be supervised on the yard. Students enter at 8:45 when the bell rings. If students arrive at their doors after 8:45, they are instructed to go around the school to the front entrance. At this point, they will be considered late.

Punctuality: Punctuality is more than a life skill that teaches our children the importance of responsibility. It helps your child start the day feeling relaxed, prepared and positive. It avoids unnecessary interruptions to the learning environment of all of the other children. Most importantly, it allows Mrs. Remani to get on the most important task of her day: ensuring safe arrival of all students. Students who are late interrupt the Safe Arrival process requiring valuable minutes to be spent on entering the child to class.  We understand that families are dynamic and unpredictable in the morning; things are going to happen that may get in the way of your routine. Please do your best to teach your children strategies to avoid lateness in the mornings. Together we can improve the process for everyone.

Please join us in giving thanks to our Crossing Guard Ms. Scantlebury, who have been dedicated to reminding our community of our Safety Procedures in all elements. Please show them your respect and gratitude!

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are a community based school. All of our students live within walking distance of our school. Cars parking or idling in our circular drive-way delay the buses that must get students to school AND create a hazard to all pedestrians. Please help us to address ongoing safety issues required to keep your child safe.

If you must drive your child to school please remember:

The kiss and ride is for students in grade 1-6 only. Kindergarten age students are NOT to be dropped off at this driveway, with or without an escort. Kindergarten parents must park on a neighbouring street and walk their child to the Kindergarten door.

Students must exit the car from the right side of the car to the sidewalk.

There is no parking in the staff parking lot.

Cars must not idle or park in the circular driveway. Drivers will be ticketed and/or towed.

NEVER leave a child alone in a car.

Please help us to keep your child safe. Our community police officers have been informed of our ongoing issues and are more than willing to support the safety of our students by ticketing illegal drivers. (See signage)

Thank you kindly for your cooperation.
