Safety Reminders for Parents

Thank you to the many families who help us to keep the kiss n' ride safe for students by walking to school or from a side street in all weather conditions.  Outdoor play is an important part of the day for all students. Students are reminded to dress for all weather conditions. We stay indoors during heavy rain or extreme cold (-20 degrees we shorten time outdoors and remain indoors at -28 or older).   A spare pair of mittens and socks are helpful for all students to have in their bags in case they are lost or get wet.

Please know that the Kindergarten area is NOT a thoroughfare for students/parents to walk through to get to the back of the school. The Kindergarten area is gated and designated for JK/SK students and parents only. Students in Grade 1-6 must go around the north side of the school to arrive at their doors.

Staff Supervision:  Staff members are assigned to supervision on the yard (Grade 1-6) at 8:30 every morning. If you drop off your child(ren) grade 1-6 at 8:30 they will be supervised on the yard. Students enter line up at the 8:43 bell and enter the school at the 8:45 bell. If students arrive at their doors after 8:45, they are instructed to go around the school to the front entrance. At this point, they will be considered late. 

The kindergarten yard is supervised by Early Childhood Educators beginning at 8:30 each morning. 

Dismissal:     Dismissal for all students is at 3:15 p.m. Students in Kindergarten to grade 3 will be dismissed directly to an after-care provider or adult caregiver. Students in grade 4-6 will be dismissed on their own as we know many junior students may be permitted to walk home alone or with friends. Please inform the office if you do not wish for your grade 4-6 student to be dismissed on their own.  It is expected that students are picked up promptly at 3:15 each day. There is no supervision beyond 3:30 p.m. so all students are encouraged to leave the school property once dismissed.  

Punctuality: Punctuality is more than a life skill that teaches our children the importance of responsibility. It helps your child start the day feeling relaxed, prepared and positive. It avoids unnecessary interruptions to the learning environment of all of the other children.  We understand that families are dynamic and unpredictable in the morning; things are going to happen that may get in the way of your routine. Please do your best to teach your children strategies to avoid lateness in the mornings. Together we can improve the process for everyone.

Crossing Guard:     We are fortunate to have Ms. Jean assigned as our crossing guard at East Avenue in front of the school. Please obey all speed limits and road rules for the safety of all students and Ms. Jean. 

Nut-Free School:   Due to serious allergies within the building, our school is nut-free. Please ensure any snacks or lunches sent to school are free of all forms of nuts.  Thank you for your attention to this safety matter.
