TDSB Top Scholars for 2016-2017 Announced

The Toronto District School Board is pleased to announce this year's TDSB Top Scholars.
The following nine students attained averages of 99% or above during the 2016-2017 academic year.

·         Jessica Chan – Dr. Norman Bethune CI

·         Roi Levy - William Lyon Mackenzie CI

·         Maunica Toleti - SATEC @ W A Porter CI

·         Aviv Padawer-Blatt - Bloor CI

·         Gwyneth Campbell - Contact Alternative School

·         Hannah He - Marc Garneau CI

·         Jason Huang - Marc Garneau CI

·         Ryan Lin - Marc Garneau CI

·         Jacqueline McLean - Richview CI

In a panel hosted at Dr. Norman Bethune CI on July 20, 2017, these Top Scholars shared their many  hobbies, interests, and pursuits including puppetry instructing at local community centres, studying Japanese in anticipation of teaching abroad, working in a lab to treat neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and mastering the electric guitar. 

Each student has their own interesting perspectives on how they received their top marks and advice for younger students entering high school.  All of these students are headed to different post-secondary institutions in September including the University of Toronto, Queens, University of Waterloo, and Harvard University.

At the Moving On Up event in May, parents received the permission forms for to be completed for our first trip.

On September 25th, 2017 all Grade 9 students will go on an exciting excursion to 'Green Acres' to develop teamwork skills with their new class mates, and meet senior students who will be leading the activities.

If you were not able to attend this event, you can print off the permission form and medical form here.

Please have your child bring both forms along with the $25 excursion fee to our Moving On Up event on August 29th, 2017.

Bloor CollegIate is growing and we are pleased to announce the appointment of our second Vice Principal.

Alison Warner was transferred from Eastdale Collegiate Institute and will assume the role of Vice-Principal at Bloor Collegiate Institute, effective September 1, 2017.

Alison has been a Vice Principal for the past 5 years, and has proven to be an outstanding leader, demonstrating an inspiring ability to connect with students in a positive and engaging manner. Through fostering the professional collaboration of all, she encourages high levels of academic achievement for all students and is committed to building strong relationships that create a warm and welcoming environment for all.

Bloor Collegiate new Vice Principal



New Grade 9 students for 2017 are able to work towards their 40 community hours this summer and bring in their forms or letters in September.

Starting in the 2017-18 school year, students who complete more than 25 community service hours with one organization should ask for a reference letter.  This will help you to build portfolios in careers class or when looking for employment in the future.  The letter should be on letter head from the organization, and include the following.

  • The number of hours
  • The dates or time span the hours were earned within
  • If possible, a description of the tasks or duties completed
  • If possilbe, a description of the skills learned with this position
  • If possible, any commendations of outstanding work
  • Contact information
If you have any questions or the organization is unable to write a letter, then please contact the guidance department.
