ISLAND SCHOOL RELOCATION UPDATES

CONTINUING TO ACCESSING ISLAND SCHOOL

MONDAY, MARCH 2ND TO FRIDAY MARCH 6TH

We have been notified by Ferry Services that the ferry service will be suspended for a minimum of an additional 10 days.  It has been reported that the ice is on average between 40 and 60 cm and even the Fire boat is experiencing substantial difficulties breaking ice at this point.  IN LIGHT OF THIS INFORMATION, WE WILL CONTINUE TO ACCESS THE SCHOOL THROUGH THE BILLY BISHOP AIRPORT FROM MONDAY, MARCH 2ND TO FRIDAY, MARCH 6TH.

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!

Details:
  • ALL city-side students will be transported by school bus from the Jack Layton Ferry Docks (in front of Westin Hotel) to the Island School via the Airport Ferry Terminal.  Students will remain on the bus until arriving at the school.
  • Island-side students will continue to use the Line Bus to be transported to and from the Island School.
  • Hot lunch will be available to those students currently enrolled in the hot lunch program.
  • It is imperative that ALL city-side students arrive at the Jack Layton Ferry Docks before 8:00am ready to board the school bus in front of the Westin Hotel.  The school bus will leave SHARPLY at 8:10am with no exceptions in order to ensure that all three school busses arrive at the Airport Ferry dock at the designated time.  Late students will not be able to access the school bus once we depart!!!
  • If, for some reason, your child misses the 8:00am pick up then you will have to take your child through the airport yourself.  The only transportation is a City Line Bus (operated by the Parks & Recreation) which carries Islanders back and forth during freeze over.  The city line bus will drop students off at the end of the road leading to the school and children will walk in to the school. We do not recommend children crossing on their own, as we are not able to make alternative pick-ups and/or drop-offs during freeze-over.
  • Please make sure your child has visited the restroom before they board the bus as the travel time could be prolonged as we cross the airport ferry.

City-side Families
  • We are asking that ALL city-side students (Kindergarten to Grade 6) meet the Island Staff at the Jack Layton Ferry Docks IN FRONT OF THE WESTIN HOTEL WHERE THE BUSSES WILL BE PARKED. Students will be able to board their bus as they arrive.
  • Parents please drop off your child before 8:00am SHARP.
  • We will depart from the docks by school bus at 8:10am SHARP.
  • ALL City-side Parents will be responsible for picking up their child on the city-side before 4:30pm at the Jack Layton Ferry docks in the warming area.

Island-side Families
  • Island students can continue to take the Line Bus.
  • Ali and Shelagh will be on the 8:30am Line Bus from Ward’s.  The Line Bus will stop briefly in front of the school on Lakeshore Ave & Centre Island Park to allow students and staff to exit.
  • ALL Parents, from the Island will be responsible for picking up their child at Wards by 3:45pm.

We will continue to up-date our IPS Families as we received information and notifications from the Ferry Services.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through email or leaving a message at the school.  Thank you for your continued patience.

Regards,
Scott Woolford
Principal
