Early Childcare Assistant Certificate Program


Information/Registration Session for classes starting in

Quad 1, September 2020 is Now Open.


Due to the Pandemic, the Information Session will be delivered in this easy to follow 4 step process: 

  1. Please read below for program information.  
  2. Complete and submit the ECA Questionnaire Click Here. All information is strictly confidential
  3. All candidates will be invited to attend an online Information Session and will have an opportunity to ask questions at that time.  Directly afterwards, a preliminary English Assessment will be delivered.  It is mandatory for all students and is similar to the questionnaire. Please note that assessments are individual, additional use of technology or supports are strictly prohibited. A second in-person English Assessment will be administered in the classroom, individual scores must be similar or higher or enrolment is forfeited.  
  4. Shortly thereafter, Acceptance Letters or Next Steps will be emailed to all candidates with Registration directions.

child coloringCALC’s Child Care Assistant Program enables you to gain knowledge and practical skills through in-school studies and a co-operative education experience in a licensed day care facility.You will learn about the important role of a child care assistant while studying child behaviour and development from birth to 12 years of age.Students will learn to develop strategies needed to communicate with and about children and will acquire an understanding of the professional skills and strategies necessary for effective care giving and professional relationships. In just 18 weeks you will earn a certificate and experience in the child care industry and will earn 6 credits towards your secondary school diploma. 

There is an opportunity to participate in an Early Childhood Educator apprenticeship with the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities through the School Board OYAP program.

The prerequisite for the program is ENG2D or ENG2P or the successful completion an program specific English Assessment.  Directions will be emailed to candidates once they have completed the questionnaire.
