My name is Colin Dye and I am thrilled to be the Principal of Drewry Secondary School from September 2019. I come to Drewry SS after serving as a Vice-Principal at Maplewood HS for four years and a Principal at Bendale BTI for three years. Drewry SS is very similar to Maplewood HS so I feel as though I am in familiar territory.
The culture of caring and commitment to student achievement among the staff at Drewry SS is absolutely amazing. For example, a sensory garden was started by a member of staff fifteen years ago and he has nurtured and maintained that garden since then, summers included, so that students can have their sensory needs met. Some members of our staff live within walking distance of the school and at least one member of staff attended Drewry as a child when Drewry was an elementary school.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our website to see all the wonderful activities and events that fill our days. Our school may be small; but our students are filled with pride and they are welcomed each day with a smile from our educators who know them all by name.
At Drewry, our staff, students, parents and community at large, work together dedicating their time, effort and talent both inside and outside the classroom to ensure a safe, and supportive learning environment. As you peruse our website we hope that you’ll see the many opportunities for our students not only to be involved, but to thrive. Our students are welcomed and accepted wholeheartedly. They are engaged, supported and most importantly they feel safe at school.
Our many extra-curricular activities and clubs keep our students fit and active. We offer volleyball, soccer, badminton, basketball, bocce ball, hockey and sledge hockey to name a few. Our lunch hours are bursting with activities and our students participate in the Weight Room, Milk Bag Project, Zumba, Computer Lab, or they simply enjoy some quiet time in the Library.
In keeping with technology in the 21st century, we have responded to the needs of our staff and students and increased our investment in technology. Our classrooms are equipped with Promethean, White Interactive Boards, computers, notebooks, and our students are equipped with the tools and individualized assistive technology to help them reach their full potentials.
Our programs are individualized and we help our students to obtain the ESAC (Employability Skills Achievement Certificate) or Certificate of Achievement.
Our doors are always open and we look forward to meeting you at Parent-Teacher Interviews, Open Houses, or any time you are available and in the neighbourhood.
Welcome and I hope to build our partnership together, to get to know all of you and work closely to help all our students be the best they can be.
