Literacy and English

The core focus of our literacy and social science program at Eastdale is to foster essential literacy and critical thinking skills for our students.

We encourage a student-centred approach to learning in which students will have a say in the direction of their coursework. We offer a variety of classes from tailored locally developed courses to College and Workplace streams. Our courses are committed to dismantling anti-Black & anti-Indigenous racism through engaged reading, writing and speaking.

We also help bridge literacy gaps so that students can find success in their daily lives, high school and the workplace. For students who require more intensive literacy support throughout the school year, we offer a small group reading intervention program. This program is reflective of the Right to Read inquiry report and applies current strategies based on the science of reading.
