Beginning on September 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education has provided new direction around cell phone and mobile device use in all ontario schools. By reducing the distraction of cell phones and mobile devices, together we can create more focused and engaging learning environments for students. Learn more at
www.tdsb.on.ca/mobiledeviceuse or contact the school with any questions.
As per
PPM128, no personal mobile devices shall be used by students at Fairmount during the instructional day. In our k-8 school that means students are not to use any personal mobile device throughout the day, including cell phones, smart watches, or tablets. If they bring the device to school, it must remain turned off, out of sight and not in use for the duration of the school day.
Personal mobile devices (including smart watches, cellphones and tablets)
- will be powered off or set to silent
- will be stored out of view
- must not be visible or used in the hallways
- must not be used in or taken to the washroom
- must not be used during recesses
- taking any photos or videos is not allowed
Progressive discipline will be used in determining consequences for not following the TDSB's cellphone policy at Fairmount Public School, beginning with a warning to put it away, but may proceed to being sent to the office, involving parents/caregivers, having the device taken by the Principal, or suspension if it has been misused.
In line with the Ministry of Education’s PPM 128, students are responsible for their personal mobile devices, including how they are used and any consequences resulting from misuse. TDSB schools and staff are not responsible or liable for any damage or loss that may occur to devices that are placed in storage due to a violation of school policy.
