March

Hello Crerar Families,

As we head into March, I want to thank all Crerar Families for making General Crerar PS such a great place to learn and work. It seems as if we skipped winter and are heading right into spring with the balmy weather we have had in February. With the weather warming up, spring thaw can also bring extreme danger to the shores and surfaces of streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes. Please be careful around all bodies of water. Stream banks can become increasingly slippery and unstable. Lake and river ice weakens and the potential for flooding and ice jamming is high.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Karnick-Davison for supporting Room 7 for the past couple of months. As she returns to her retirement, we wish her all the very best. We are fortunate to have French Teacher, Mr. Luxamar, support the Grade 3/4 FI class for the rest of the second term. We welcome Mr. Luxamar as he joins the General Crerar team!

Thank you, families, who were able to join us for a wonderful night on February 28 to watch our Winter Concert. Thank you staff for organizing, and students for putting on a fantastic performance! We are also grateful to our Parent Council who supported the event by selling baked goods. Proceeds will go towards school initiatives that support School Improvement Goals. I am happy to share that the Parent Council is starting a School Pantry. Members are asking families to help start the School Pantry by donating non-perishable items. Please see the posters below for details:

The Toronto District School Board is proud to recognize Greek Heritage Month (GHM) during March. It is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Greek Canadians to Canada, and an occasion to mark and enjoy the history of Greek culture.  Monday, March 11, 2024, marks the first week of Ramadan, one of the holiest months of the Islamic calendar.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset for 29 or 30 consecutive days - as determined by the lunar calendar. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims break their fast each evening with a communal dinner called an iftar. During Ramadan, Muslims make every effort to recite the Qur'an, participate in extra prayers, engage in charity, and complete good deeds to reach a higher level of spirituality. Once the month is over, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast with family and friends, wearing special clothes, and sharing gifts for up to three days.
