Optional Attendance

Background Information

Students who reside within the City of Toronto have the right to attend a school which is designated to serve their residential address.

The Hunter’s Glen’s Current Optional Attendance Status for 2019-2020:

Regular Program – Closed, Extended French Program: FULL

Please note that the optional attendance status is updated every January for admission in September. Many schools that are "open" or "limited" to optional attendance have their available spaces filled in the spring. Please confirm if an "open" or "limited" school has space available by calling the school directly.

Optional attendance status does not apply to alternative schools or programs, or specialized schools or programs. These schools and programs are open to any students who are residents of the City of Toronto. Students will be selected for admission subject to the students meeting the required admission criteria of such schools and programs.

An open school has space available and can accept students on optional attendance up to the school’s optimal level of enrolment.

A limited school has a current enrolment that exceeds the school’s optimal level of enrolment, but the school can accept a restricted number of students on optional attendance up to a specified level.

A closed school has no space available for students on optional attendance; only students residing within the school’s attendance area will be accepted.

If a school is classified as limited or open, and you are interested in applying to that school, please contact the school’s principal.

TDSB Street Guide identifies the designated schools for each residential address.

Students also have the opportunity to access schools outside of the school that is designated to serve their residential address by applying on optional attendance. Acceptance at these schools is subject to space availability and program suitability. The procedures, conditions and timelines relating to optional attendance are described in the Optional Attendance Policy.

Each year in January, schools are classified as open, limited or closed to optional attendance based on the space they have available for the upcoming school year.
