How Regent Heights began, grew and changed:

1921: Regent Heights Public School, Scarborough actually began as Regent's Park Public School.

The one room frame structure was located on rented property on Bexhill Avenue, but it was really an annex school for Oakridge Public School. The school principal, Mr. Russell had his office at Oakridge. Mrs. Peters was the first teacher at the Regent Park portable annex. She had 41 students in grades 1-6.

1924: The building was moved across the road, from rented property to a new lot purchase by the school trustees.

1938: The building became so crowded that the trustees had to rent additional space in the local Ratepayers Hall and the basement of a nearby church.

1946: With the formation of Scarborough Public School Area # 1, Regent's Park School was separated from Oakridge and construction began on a new brick school on Pharmacy Ave at our current location.

1947: The building was completed by September 15th, 1947 and the students moved from the Bexhill site to the new building.

1951: Addition built - 6 rooms
1952: Addition built - 6 rooms and a gym

1954: With the formation of the Scarborough Board of Education, the school's name was changed to Regent Heights to avoid confusion with the Regent Park community in Toronto.

1958: The school's population peaked at 743 students and remained about 700 until the mid 1960s. Enrolment continued to decline until it reached the 320 mark in 1982.
