I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy of learning. As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I am excited to continue building a school where students feel a deep sense of belonging, respect is valued, and every student is challenged to reach their full potential.

My vision remains grounded in the Five Pursuits of Learning as a framework for nurturing students’ skills, identity, intellect, joy, and agency. Guided by this framework, inside our classrooms, our focus will remain on delivering the Ontario Curriculum with fidelity and excellence. We are committed to ensuring that every student has access to high-quality learning experiences that are intentional, engaging, and responsive to their learning needs. This also means working collaboratively as educators and using common assessments across classrooms to strengthen consistency in our instructional practices, deepen professional learning, and better understand each student’s progress. This collaborative approach will allow us to stretch students, inspire curiosity, strengthen character, and create opportunities that empower every student to flourish.

This year, I will continue to invest in the rich extracurricular opportunities that make The Waterfront School such a vibrant place to learn. Athletics, clubs, student leadership, environmental initiatives, music, the arts, and community partnerships provide students with opportunities to discover their passions, build meaningful relationships, and develop leadership skills that extend beyond the school day and into their lives.

An equally important priority this year is helping students develop the skills to regulate their emotions, attention, and behaviour. Self-regulation is not a single lesson but a developmental journey that begins in Kindergarten and continues through Grade 8. Across every classroom, students will be explicitly taught strategies to recognize their emotions, manage challenges, persevere through difficulty, and make thoughtful decisions. These skills support academic achievement, healthy relationships, resilience, and lifelong well-being.

None of this work is possible without strong partnerships between the school and our parent community. I am truly grateful for the ongoing support of our families, School Council, and community partners, whose collaboration enriches the educational experience of every child. Together, we create an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, learn from mistakes, celebrate one another’s successes, and contribute positively to our school community.
