Social Science and Humanities

Mission

Have you ever wondered about the patterns of human behaviour? What is the meaning of life? How to cook healthy and nutritious meals? Or about the development of children? Welcome to the Social Science and Humanities department!

Our curriculum covers five major subject areas in family studies, equity studies, general social sciences, philosophy and world religions. Even though these subjects are all different and unique in their own ways, it explores the importance of family, community, culture, and societal norms and ideals.

Students will learn how to think critically on various social topics that are relevant in today’s society. They will build awareness and make connections to critical issues in their life. The subjects help students build an understanding of how individuals, families, and societies think, act, live and interact with one another. These courses will also allow students to develop their skills in other disciplines and broaden their perspectives in other subjects, such as English, History and Geography.

Social Science and Humanities give students with essential skills that are practical and applicable to their own lives, such as their personal and family life, as well as their post-secondary and workplace experiences. They provide a strong foundation for vibrant, healthy and engaged citizenship and give students meaning to the world around them.
