“I learned that it takes time to put this cylinder in the Pencil. I'll see if I can make that cylinder and practice because it was HARD and next time I'll be prepared to put the cylinder in the pencil.” By Strahinja

The Kindness Rock Project

Kindness rock on shelf

The idea of Kindness Rocks was created by a woman named Megan Murphy. She painted rocks and wrote a kind message and left it on a beach for other people to find. The kindness Rocks Project began at Westmount when we, grade fours, were learning about rocks and minerals in class. We were also reading a novel called “Wonder” at the time. Wonder was all about kindness.     (Sarha)

In our school we started painting rocks and placing them inside the school so everyone can find it and be happy.  (Servan)

How it worked around the school was, we would hide a rock where someone can find it then when they find it they will pass it on. It made people feel happy, excited and feel good.    (Halima)

Battery Recycling Challange

"I'm excited to share this with you! Our school will be one of just 125 schools participating in the Ontario Schools Battery Recycling Challenge. Please read the parent letter sent home where you'll find information on how to access a bunch of awesome resources provided for us. We'll have the opportunity to win cash rewards, and of course the satisfaction of knowing that we've created awareness in our community, and diverted batteries from ending up in landfill!! (Extra bonus, some funds are also donated to Sick Kids Hospital.) Now let's all start bringing in those dead batteries! from Ms. Ayllon"   student in front of battery collection barrel
