Principal's Message

Principal's Message

As we embark on another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our core values and our commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for every member of our school community.  This year, we are placing a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, alongside our dedication to academic excellence in literacy and mathematics.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

We recognize that mental health is a crucial foundation for learning and growth. This year, we will continue to foster emotional resilience through the education of self-regulation skills.  Our staff are dedicated to fostering an environment where every student feels safe to express their feelings and seek help when needed.  We encourage open dialogue about mental health and hope to empower our students with the tools they need to thrive both academically and personally.

Academic Excellence

We are committed to enhancing our literacy and math programs through ongoing professional development and professional dialogue.  We believe that strong foundational skills in these areas are essential for our students' future success. Our dedicated educators are focused on providing engaging, experiential learning tasks that cater to diverse learning styles.  We want to provide opportunities to ensure that every student can excel and build confidence in their capabilities.

At Yorkview, inclusivity and equity are at the heart of our mission.  We celebrate the diversity of our student body and are committed to ensuring that every student feels valued and respected.  Our teaching strategies are designed to meet the varied needs of our learners, creating classroom environments where all voices are heard and included.  We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, and we will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle barriers to learning.

Together, we are building a caring community where kindness and respect are fundamental.  Our staff is dedicated to creating meaningful connections with students, fostering a sense of belonging that allows each child to thrive.  We invite parents and guardians to join us in this endeavor, as your support and involvement are vital to our students' success.

As we move forward this year, let us all commit to prioritizing mental health and wellbeing, striving for excellence in academics and ensuring that our school remains a place where every student feels included and cared for.  Together we can create a nurturing environment that empowers our students to reach their full potential and together we can teach the power of our "golden rule", to treat others the way we want to be treated.

At Yorkview, we strive to teach children not only the fundamentals of academics but also essential life lessons and values that shape their character.  We believe that cultivating traits such as empathy, resilience, and integrity is crucial for their success in life.  This year, we are committed to fostering a culture where kindness is celebrated- encouraging students to "spread kindness like confetti."  By embracing this philosophy, we aim to empower children with the realization that they hold the power to make a difference in this world.

Yours in education,

Shauna Small
