Good Afternoon CR Families!
The winter weather has finally arrived. Please make sure that your child is sent to school with the appropriate clothing to be outside. When an extreme cold weather alert is issued or when temperatures and/or windchill factor indicates –20 to –28C, recesses may be shortened depending on local conditions. Also, just a reminder that tomorrow Friday January 17, 2025 is a PA Day for students. We will see students back in the building on Monday. Please see below for the information that we would like to share this week.

Graduation Photos
Grad photos will take place on Friday January 24th. Please see this flyer for more information. Also, note that it is best if students come prepared for their graduation photos in a white collared shirt and tie or white polo shirt for a proper fit. There is no need to purchase a shirt for these photos. A gown and sash will be provided, and the photographers will have a few collared shirts if needed. Photos are from the waist up. What students wear on the bottom half won’t show and will be covered by the graduation gown.
It is recommended to keep jewelry small as props are used and can become overpowering in the photos. Hands/fingernails do show so it also recommended that you remove chipped nail polish or use a fresh coat if you would like to wear nail polish. 4 photos will be taken - why not try a variety of smiles!
Theater Trip for Grade 6, ⅞ ISP and LEAP Students
Just a reminder about the upcoming trip to the Young People's Theatre for our grade 6, LEAP, and ISP students. We will be heading to the theater to watch a play titled The Darkest Dark. Imagine that it is the summer of 1969 and Apollo 11 is about to land on the moon. Nine-year-old space-loving Chris dreams of becoming a brave astronaut and is counting down the days to the televised event. But at bedtime, when the night closes in, so too does his fear of the dark. With his family and best friends by his side, young Chris realizes that watching history being made hinges on conquering his fear and embracing the unknown.
Tickets are $13 per student. The permission form as well as the School Cash Online payment form is available for you at this time. Please remember that the permission form must be completed in the EMA system and the payment made on Cash onLine. The deadline for formes will Monday Jan 19, 2025 at midnight.
Black History Month Celebration Rehearsals
Students are starting to prepare for our school's Black History Month Celebration. Please click on this link for next week's rehearsal schedule.
Inclement Weather
Children need an opportunity to get exercise and free play time outdoors, however, weather conditions sometimes warrant that indoor recesses, lunch periods and pre-entry periods be considered necessary for student and staff safety.
Conditions warranting indoor recesses (a) Rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, extreme winds and extreme cold. (b) Cold weather: When temperature and/or windchill factor indicates -28C or lower children will remain indoors due to risk of frostnip and frostbite. When an extreme cold weather alert is issued or when temperatures and/or windchill factor indicates –20 to –28C, recesses may be shortened to 10 minutes and lunch recess be 20 minutes depending on local conditions. Children should be monitored closely for signs of frostnip, frostbite or difficulty breathing.
With the winter comes snow! At times, it is necessary to cancel student transportation, classes and/or programs. On rare occasions, severe weather makes it necessary to close TDSB schools, administrative offices or sites. Visit the website to learn about Snow/Cold Weather and the Procedure for Severe Weather.

Culturally Relevant and Responsive Community Resources
As we begin the new year, just a kind reminder of resources for students, staff, parents, caregivers, and guardians. Toronto is home to a wide range of services which can be overwhelming, and the TDSB Mental Health Leads have developed an easy-to-use tool featuring over 1,000 Toronto-based resources sourced from 211ontario.ca in hopes to make the navigation of community resources easier.
These resources are:
- Culturally relevant and responsive
- Organized by themes and locations, including East York, North York, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Scarborough
- Covering services such as youth shelters, food banks, and mental health agencies
While this list is comprehensive and regularly updated, it is not exhaustive. We encourage you to explore and share the Culturally Relevant and Responsive Community Resources widely within your school communities.
