WEEK OF JANUARY 19, 2026:

Good evening,

I hope that you have been able to enjoy the extra long weekend.

With the snowfall, we want to ensure everyone is working towards a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up. To ensure a smooth and safe morning drop-off please review the following:

  1. Give yourself an extra 5 – 10 minutes and pack some patience😊. School staff are available at 8:30am to supervise.
  2. Please use one of the four drop-off pathways that have been shoveled along the boulevard to the sidewalk on Upper Rouge Trail. Pylons have been placed to identify each drop-off zone.
  3. School staff will be available to escort kindergarten students to their class in the round-a-bout. We need to keep this area clear for our buses.
  4. Please review the Pedestrian Safety slideshow to ensure the safety of our school community.

A stretch of cold weather is being forecasted by Environment Canada. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Students are outside for two 15-minute recesses and about 30 minutes at lunch. The TDSB Severe Weather Policy states that outdoor time is modified (10 minutes for recess & 20 minutes for lunch) when the temperature (with windchill) is between -20 & -27. If the temperature (with windchill) drops below -28, students will stay inside. Staff remind students to wear their winter wear before they head outside.

Toronto Public Health will be conducting their annual dental screening at Alvin Curling PS from January 22 – 28. If you do not want your child to participate, please email your child’s teacher or me ([email protected]).

    • During the movie, we’ll be introducing the Curling Café. We will have coffee, tea, hot chocolate and treats for parents in the library. While in the library, school staff will be hosting a brief literacy and numeracy session to equip parents with tools to support their child(ren).
  • Wednesday Walkthrough on Wednesday, January 28 at 9:00 a.m. This is an opportunity for all parents/caregivers to meet with school staff and walkthrough the building.

On Friday, October 31 our student leaders have organized a spirit day. Students are encouraged to wear orange & black or a costume. If choosing to wear a costume, please follow the TDSB guidelines listed below:

  1. Discriminatory or offensive costumes—including those that stereotype Indigenous identities, races, cultures, or religions—are not permitted in TDSB schools or workplaces. All costumes must follow the school Code of Conduct, Student Dress Code, and the Human Rights Code. For guidance, see TDSB’s articles: Halloween - Cultures Are Not Costumes & #MyCultureIsNotACostume.
  2. Fake/replica weapons and costume masks that obscure the face are not permitted.
  3. If your child chooses to wear a costume, consider bringing a change of clothes. Why? We do not want the costume being damaged during outside play during recess and lunch.
  4. We ask that you do not send food treats to be shared with your child’s class. Why? Many of our students have dietary restrictions and/or life-threatening allergies. We need to keep them safe.
