Principal's Message

2026-2027 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

On behalf of the staff at Alvin Curling PS, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our students and families.  We trust that you had a wonderful summer break with your children and that you were able to enjoy many shared activities.  We look forward to welcoming students and families back on Tuesday, September 8th. The entry bell rings at 8:40am. You will receive an email from the school on Friday, September 4th that states which class your child is in and the entrance/exit where they will meet their teacher on the first day.

It is a privilege and honour to be back as the principal of Alvin Curling PS as I begin my 28th year as an educator. I am excited about the opportunity to continue to contribute and collaborate with such a strong school community. It is exciting to be a part of a school community that believes in all students receiving a “well rounded” education.

There are a few ways to stay connected with the school. I will be sending a weekly update, Curling Connection, to the school community using the TDSB’s automated email messaging system. Please ensure the school has your up-to-date email address.  Our website, https://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/alvincurling, and X/Twitter account, @CurlingTDSB , are two other ways to stay informed. Make sure to follow us for updates!

In preparation for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8th, I encourage you to spend a few minutes to review the following:

We encourage parents/guardians to be involved in their children’s education by supporting our School Advisory Council.  Education is a partnership between parents, students, teachers, and school administration. Your participation in the council will give you the opportunity to strengthen that partnership, and to be part of a diverse team working to support your child’s education. Your involvement can make a difference! Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, October 1st at 6:30pm.

My door is always open. Please do not hesitate to contact the school’s office or send me an email (matt.johnston@tdsb.on.ca) if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes for a great start to 2026 – 2027 school year,

Matt Johnston

Principal
