School councils are an excellent way for parents to get involved in their child's educational experience. 

The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, staff and sometimes student representatives, appointed community members, the principal, and a general membership which includes all parents of children attending the school. December 2026 School Council Minutes

2025-2026 School Council Meeting Minutes:

Blaydon's Parent Council Meeting-October 16, 2025

Introductions:

-Parminder Dhillon was introduced as Parent, Caregiver, Community & Engagement Worker

Role of School Council and Elections:

-Z. Valerio presented the various roles of the parent council

-Z. Valerio presented the 4 parents that were nominated  

-Jahmar Speid and Derya Yakin elected by acclamation as co chairs

-Nadia Spadafora was elected as a voting member by acclamation

School Council Updates:

-Z. Valerio reviewed the initiatives that the last chair person was involved in 

-school council budget balance is $2079

-Pizza lunch was able to be organized by Voula which raised about $500 for this school year

-End of the year picnic also used some school council funds to pay for the bouncy council

-Some suggestions were creating spirit wear

-Students have decided on a Bear

-They are in the process of designing a logo

School Updates:

-Z. Valerio went over the school profile

-Blaydon is a Model School

-School Budget for this year is $37,860, school budget/improvement focuses were shared

 -Focus on early reading k-2

-Assigned Early Reading teacher comes to support students

-SK-2 participate in early reading screening

-Z. Valerio presented various clubs available in the school

-Community Newsletter will be coming 

-Halloween information will be included 

-Let your kindness Glow Dance will be on the 31st

-Looking for a Parent Volunteer to join the Caring and Safe School Committee

-Parent Council Grant Opportunity - Parminder to share information

2024-2025 Meeting Minutes: 

 

Blaydon’s Parent Council Meeting- October 25, 2024

Started at 6pm

 Introductions

·      Reviewed the positions of the parent council and then elected Genevieve Keats as Chair of parent council and Cintia Peres Da Conceicao  as the Co-Chair

       Parminder Dhillon, Parent, Caregiver & Community Engagement Worker, was introduced and shared website tdsbhub.ca where parents can access TDSB updates and programs

·     Principal, Ms Valerio shared school Profile

o   K_5 school with 1 middle Immersion French Program

o   3 Intensive Support Programs

o   Blaydon has 171 students.

o   Model Schools for Inner Cities, LOI 53

o   School budget is $ 33,377 with a focus on culturally relevant materials, ongoing professional learning,  Improving playground/play equipment.

·         Gave important Upcoming Events

·         October 31- Pumpkin decorating contest ( ends at lunch time), costume party dance in afternoon.

·         November 1 Character trait assembly @9:30 am

·         November 7 Treaties Recognition Week Presentation. Grades 3-5 @ 10:30. A parent of students who          have moved on will be coming in to do a lecture/speech as her daughter will be doing a dance

·         November 14 evening interviews as progress reports will be sent out shortly prior.

·         November 15 morning interviews/NO SCHOOL

·         November 21 Tribal Vision Dance Performance @ 10:30 am

·         November 29 – PA DAY/NO SCHOOL

·         All parents are welcome as well as encouraged to come to the school for any of these activities at the          school

·         School Council updates were given such as:

·         The crossing guard petition has been fully processed and unfortunately denied.

·         The application for after school programming was also unfortunately denied due to low funding

     School council will focus on fundraising to support various school initiatives.
