At CR. Marchant, we collect a variety of assessments in order to base our School Improvement Goals. We use EQAO, CAT4, Report Card data, and a variety of teacher diagnostics to assess and evaluate student progress throughout the year.
Grade 6 EQAO Data
Each September, EQAO (Education, Quality and Accountability Office) release Provincial and school results for the Grade 3 and 6 Assessment that students completed in the previous Spring. In 2016/17, the percentage of students who scored Level 3 or higher in reading, writing and math was 81, 79 and 50. C.R. Marchant scored 69, 75 and 38 respectively. In 207/2018, C.R. scored 74, 75 and 42. In the 2018/2019 school year, the students scored 66%, 75% and 28% in reading, writing and math. We experienced some challenges that staff will be reviewing and analyzing in order to improve student achievement. Although EQAO is one method of assessment, and a snapshot of student achievement, it is important to look at not only the overall school results, but more importantly the individual scores. Each learner will be looked at to see how improvement can be made this year.
Students in Grade 6-8 complete a CAT4 (Canadian Abilities Test). Teachers use the data to help program for individual students and the overall school results will be analyzed by all staff to help create long-term goals in literacy and math.
The scores represents an overall mean grade equivalent (GE). For example: A score of "6.3" means that a student is performing the same as a student in grade 6, after the third month of school.
GE scores can be very misleading. For example, if a grade 7 student receives a score of "9.6", that means that she/he scored the same as a 9th grader would have scored in March. Some parents may then assume that their child is "gifted" or ready to take on grade 9 work, but remember, your child was tested on grade 7 material, not grade 9.
The following table shows our Fall 2017-2018 results.

We will publish our scores for Fall 2018-2019 when the arrive in the next couple of weeks.
