Welcome to Grade 9 Science!
Your first year in science will cover five main course strands: STEM Skills and Connections, Biology (Sustainable Ecosystems and Climate Change), Chemistry (The Nature of Matter), Physics (Principles and Applications of Electricity), and Earth and Space Science (Space Exploration). The grade 9 science course includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, and laboratory experiments in all of the strands. A detailed course outline will be provided by your teacher.
A field trip to the Toronto Zoo is planned each semester for the grade 9 science classes. The science department offers a variety of clubs through the Science Society, including Science Fair and HOSA, and the opportunity to participate in science contests.
The Grade 9 science course will help you to start thinking about what science courses you might want to take in the future. After grade 10 science, you will have the opportunity to take grade 11 physics, chemistry, and biology. The science department course offerings are listed on the main science page.
If you need support in your science learning, you can drop by the science office in room 345 for extra help. Check the teacher timetables posted on the science office doors to see when your teacher is available.
