Office Hours: Our office opens each day at 8:15 am and closes at 4:15 pm.  We have two telephone lines which roll over and an answering machine which takes messages, if all the lines are in use.  If we are unable to take your call, please leave a detailed message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Late and Absences: In order to provide the best possible program for students, it is necessary for ALL students to attend school regularly.  The Education Act states that it is the responsibility of the parent (or guardian) to ensure that their children attend school regularly, until the age of 18.

Please ensure that your child is at school regularly and on time.  Students should be in the school yard by no later than 8:20 am. In case of any sickness or any other emergency please report the absence to the office ASAP at 416-394-7910, and press 1 at the prompt.

Safe Arrival Program: Students must make every effort to be in the school yard by 9.00 am to ensure ‘on time’ arrival in class.  When the weather is inclement, students will be allowed to enter the building as they arrive at school after 8:45 am.

Supervising staff are on duty outside at 8:45 am, during recesses and lunch hour.  Staff members are also on duty at the end of the day to assist with bus loading.  Supervision at the playground is NOT available AFTER school. Parents are responsible to ensure timely pick up.

Parents may  leave a message on the telephone voicemail before 8:00 am. If the student does not arrive at school and if we do not receive a message that he or she will be absent or late, the automated callout system will call that parent at home or at work. Please follow the prompts accordingly. If we cannot verify the safety of the student, the police may be notified. This is an important safety program and we expect parents’ full cooperation and assistance. In order that we have the most recent information for the attendance verification program, parents and students are asked to keep the school office staff informed of any changes in telephone numbers and addresses, as soon as they occur.

Dismissal

During the school day:  Students MUST be signed out by parents/guardians or designated caregivers ONLY.  Students will not be permitted to leave the building independently.  Students are expected to remain on school property for the entire duration of the school day.  This is for reasons of personal safety and security.

At the end of the day:  ALL students MUST be picked up from the respective locations by 3:30 pm. Kindergarten students are dismissed into their yard, and grades 1-5 students who walk or are met by caregivers are dismissed in the yard at the back of the building.  Repeated late pick-ups may result in notification to the school social worker to best support students and families.

Bussed students are dismissed from the lunchroom, as soon as the busses arrive, after the dismissal bell.

Lunch Hour and Expectations: At Ecole Elmlea we encourage litterless healthy lunches. Please help your child to pack lunch in the morning. Under extenuating situations, please drop lunch off by 11:30 am clearly marked with your child's name and  teacher's name. At Ecole Elmea we follow the Lunch timing below, and eat in the lunchroom.
