This year, there will be two virtual (online webchat) information sessions for parents/guardians interested in the Early French Immersion (SK entry) application process.

Secondary Programs, Optional Attendance

- November 14, 7 p.m. at Western Technical-Commercial School, 125 Evelyn Cres, Cafeteria

- November 26, 7 p.m. at C W Jefferys Collegiate Institute, 340 Sentinel Rd, Cafeteria

- November 28, 7 p.m. at John Polanyi Collegiate Institute, 640 Lawrence Ave W, Cafeteria

 

Trustees approved an action plan for the Secondary Review in June 2019. The plan includes looking at ALL secondary programs and courses offered at each site, related policies, procedures and enrolment with a view to increasing equity of access across the TDSB. The Optional Attendance Policy is being reviewed at the same time. It applies to both elementary and secondary students.

The first draft of the new Optional Attendance Policy P013 (Attendance at Schools Outside of Designated Attendance Area) and Survey is available here until February 3, 2020. The current Optional Attendance Policy P013 is here.

Changes to French Immersion/Extended French programs also adopted by Trustees in June will merge with changes that may come from the Secondary Review and the new Optional Attendance policy.

French Programs Application Deadline

For families interested in the Toronto District School Board's French Immersion or Extended French programs, we offer an online process for applying to:

  • Early French Immersion (EFI) which begins in Senior Kindergarten;
  • Junior Extended French (JEF) which begins in Grade 4

 While admission to the Early French Immersion (SK entry)/Junior Extended French (Grade 4 entry) program is guaranteed at the entry points to all on time applicants, admission to a specific school is not guaranteed if the school reaches capacity. The timelines for applying for these programs for September 2020 are:

  • Applications for Early French Immersion (for a Junior Kindergarten aged child), must be completed online between November 4, 2019 and November 29, 2019.
  • Applications for Junior Extended French must be completed online between January 6, 2020 and January 31, 2020.

PIAC Parent Conference

Registration is now open for the PIAC Parent Conference on Saturday, November 16, 2019. This year’s focus is on School Councils, so whether you’re on one, would like to join one, or would like to learn more, join us! Registration is free and includes bussing, lunch and childcare. I will be there and hope you can attend as well!

 

High School Information Nights

To help you make an informed decision when choosing a high school, TDSB schools host information nights for parents and grade 8 students each year between October and January. Learn everything you need to know about our incredible variety of schools, programs and courses. The dates and times for High School Information Nights in Ward 1 are listed below:

Upcoming Ward Forum

Please join me on Thursday November 28th at West Humber Collegiate Institute (1675 Martin Grove Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9V 3S3), from 6:00 pm-8:00pm for a Parent Engagement Night. Come out and meet other parents/guardians from schools across Ward 1, bring your questions, share your ideas, and let’s talk about what we can achieve together in Ward 1! Childcare and light refreshments will be provided.
