Students at the Elementary level will be studying a curriculum focused on literacy and numeracy which will help build the foundation to becoming successful in school and life. In addition to the Ontario curriculum, students from grade's 1 through 6 will participate in a mindfulness curriculum that focuses on knowing and understanding how the brain works and controlling its actions.
General Mercer Public School students go to the Library once a week, have a Music class once a week and have Phys-Ed twice per week. For all extra-curricular sports, please visit our Athletics section.
The Music program at General Mercer provides students with the opportunity to explore instrumental music and develop their own vocal skills. The students are encouraged to express their feeling and ideas about the music thru the use of Drama, Dance and Visual Arts. Social initiatives (such as character traits and anti-bulling) are woven into the Music lessons.
We are excited to offer the students the opportunity to extend their musical skills by participating in the school choir.
General Mercer offers a rich French program from grade 4 to 6 for all junior students.
Specialized Classes
General Mercer also offers a rich array of specialized classes where students have individualized learning goals, which often promote the development of communication skills, social skills, self-regulation, independence skills and/or motor skills.
