Toronto District School Board Parent Conference 2019

Join us for the Parents as Partners Conference on Saturday, March 30, 2019!

This all-inclusive conference is organized by TDSB parents for TDSB parents, guardians and caregivers. Participate in workshops, network with parents and community agencies and learn new strategies to support your child’s success.

Registration opens in February! Register early as there is limited space in each workshop!

Who:

  • ALL parents/guardians/caregivers of TDSB students are invited and welcome to attend.

 This free conference – planned by parents, for parents – includes a variety of workshops and resources that will help any parent support their child in their achievement and well-being at school and at home.

Transportation, food and translators are all provided, as well as free day camp for children ages 4-12 to support participants attending the conference. Registration opens mid-February at www.parentsaspartners.ca

  • Parents as Partners Conference 2019 is a FREE conference. Whether your child is just beginning on their educational journey in elementary school or closer to graduation and planning for the future, there are informative and empowering sessions for parents/guardians/caregivers of students of all ages and stages of education.

Karl Subban

Keynote Speaker - Karl Subban

Karl Subban is a former Toronto school principal and the father of five children, including three NHL players. He’s dedicated his life to helping others reach their potential. In his powerful talks he explores teamwork and leadership and offers a fresh take on what it means to succeed.

Accessibility:

All seminar rooms are wheelchair accessible and reserved seating will be available.

Please identify yourself to conference staff for assistance in locating wheelchair accessible entrances and washrooms. Feel free to contact us in advance of your arrival if you have any concerns.

 

Day Camp for Children
A free day camp is available for children ages 4 to 12 to support conference participants. Children will participate in a camp at nearby Parkdale Jr and Sr PS. More details will be available when registration opens.

Thank you to all staff and students who participated in our 2nd annual STEAM fair. Students showed much innovation and  creativity in inventing new ideas, and improving on some existing ones. Way to go Hudson! 

Thai Pongal!

Thank you to students from 'Me To We' who put on a great assembly yesterday to teach us about Thai Pongal. Students learned about the celebration through presentations, dances, and music. What a great way to end of Tamil Heritage month. Thank you also to the teachers who organized this assembly. Happy Thai Pongal to all our Hudson families.

Students who did not attend the ski trip, also had a  great day at Hudson. Classes participated in a variety of activities ranging from trivia, gym, art, board games, multiplication bingo etc... Grade 8 students were fortunate enough to participate in webinar on synthetic blood. Thank you to all the staff who helped organize and run the activities.  IMG_3575

Students had a great time on Wednesday, January 23rd tearing up the slopes at Brimacombe, despite the wet weather . Thank you to all staff who came and had some fun! 

Things My Fore-Sisters Saw

things my foresistes sawStudents were fortunate enough to have Lesley McCurdy come in today to present her one-woman play "Things My Fore-Sisters Saw". Her  play on 4 prominent African- Canadian women brought to light the many injustices Black women faced in the past, and how their struggles brought about change in Canada for African- Canadian women. What an inspirational way to start Black History Month.  

Holiday Concert!

Thank you to all staff and students who worked so hard to put on a great Holiday Concert. There was singing, playing, dancing, and skits. A special thanks to Madame Moise, Ms. Duff and Mr. Renzetti for all their hard work in making the concert a tremendous success!

Grade 8 Science Center Trip

The grade 8s had a  great time at the Science Center on Wednesday, December 19th. They participated in a science workshop where they learned about certain properties of matter. Thank you to Ms. Adbel-Nour for organizing a great trip.

Hudson's classes who are studying feature profiles in class had the opportunity to ask Sportsnet writer and editor for writing and interviewing tips today.  Thank you Evan Rosser for your time and advice!

Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants

8A took a virtual field trip with National Geographic Eduation to Tanzania amongst other classes all over North America.  They learned about how Laly Lichtenfield and her team help a rural community to live sustainably amongst lions and other wildcats.

Dancing Up a Storm at Woburn!

On Monday, December 10th, grade 8 students had the opportunity to partake in a variety of dance workshops at Woburn Collegiate. Students learned choreography in jazz, contemporary, bollywood, soca, hip hop, and afro beats. Students were able to perform their dances afterwards as well as participate in a holiday finale.

Exploring Sidewalk Toronto!

On November 20th, and 21st, grade 8 students had the opportunity to explore Sidewalk Toronto, a lab dedicated to implement sustainable practices in communities. Students learned about different designs, technologies, and resources that are being used to create a sustainable community.

Remembrance Day

Thank you to all staff and students who participated in Friday's Remembrance Day assembly. Students displayed excellent listening skills, while those who presented did an amazing job at reminding us of the importance of this day. This year also marked the centennial anniversary of the end of WW1. Lest we forget.

Learning About City Planning

Grade 8 students were fortunate enough to have city planners come in on Wednesday, November 7th and learned about what features and ideas go into developing a neighbourhood. They then had the opportunity to create their own.  Thank you to Madame Moise and Mr. Kwashie for organizing this amazing learning opportunity.

Halloween Stories at Heather Heights!

On Tuesday, October 30th, both Madame Moise, and  Ms. Kelly took students from 8F and G to Heather Heights. They had  the opportunity to read their Halloween stories written and presented beautifully, with pictures, to some of the younger grades, who were captivated by the grade 8s and their stories.  Much thoughtfulness, talent and creativity  was displayed by students during the event.

Run for Terry Fox!

Thank you to the student council for organizing our annual Terry Fox event. Students participated in a variety of events, such as a walk around the neighbourhood, an art activity to promote the event, and movies about the impact Terry Fox has had on  both cancer research and the lives of cancer patients. We were also fortunate enough to have Ms. Kelly talk about her experience as a cancer survivor! We are proud to announce that we meet our fundraising goal of $1260. Way to go Hudson!
