Welcome to Islington Junior Middle School!

At Islington, we believe that it takes a village to raise a child. This timeless proverb truly comes to life in our school community, where students, staff, families and community partners work together to create an inclusive, welcoming, safe and nurturing environment in which every student is valued, supported and inspired to learn.

With a proud history dating back to 1832, Islington Junior Middle School has a rich tradition of excellence, growth and community involvement. Today, we are home to approximately 800 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, representing a wonderfully diverse community with more than 55 languages spoken among our families. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths, enriching our school culture and helping our students develop an appreciation for different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds.

Our dedicated staff are committed to providing engaging, meaningful and challenging learning opportunities that allow every student to reach their full potential. As an Early French Immersion school, we value the strength of both our English and French programs and the collaboration that takes place across divisions. Through ongoing professional learning, collaborative planning and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), our educators continually strengthen their instructional practices and work together to improve student achievement and well-being.

As we move into the 2026–2027 school year, our school continues to focus on four important areas: Literacy, Numeracy, Indigenous Education, and Thrive and Belonging. These priorities reflect our commitment to strong academic foundations while ensuring that every student feels a genuine sense of connection, identity, belonging and success. We recognize that student achievement and well-being go hand in hand, and that every moment in the school day is an opportunity to make a positive difference.

At Islington, learning extends well beyond the classroom. We place great value on Healthy Active Living, the Arts, Environmental Education, Character Education and opportunities for student leadership. Our students are encouraged to explore their interests, discover their strengths, develop their talents and contribute positively to their school and community. Through our extracurricular sports, clubs, intramurals, music, dance, visiting artists, field trips and special programs, we strive to provide experiences that make learning meaningful, memorable and engaging.

We are also incredibly proud of our continued commitment to environmental sustainability. Our EcoSchools Platinum certification is a reflection of the dedication of our students, staff and families, who understand the importance of making responsible choices and caring for the world around us. We believe that developing environmentally responsible citizens begins with the small actions we take together every day.

Our strong partnerships with families and the wider community are central to who we are. We are fortunate to have an active and dedicated School Council, whose ongoing support helps enrich the educational experiences of our students. Whether through fundraising, technology, curriculum support, visiting artists, field trips or special school initiatives, our parent community plays an important role in making Islington such a special place. We are equally grateful for our community partnerships and the many individuals and organizations who contribute to the life of our school.

Ultimately, our goal is simple: to ensure that every student who walks through our doors feels welcomed, respected, encouraged and empowered to be the very best they can be. We want our students to leave Islington not only with the knowledge and skills they need for the future, but also with confidence, compassion, curiosity and a strong sense of responsibility to their community.
