Dear Manhattan Park Families,
I cannot believe that we have only two more months together. With only a couple of months left of school, please let the office know whether you will be moving and not returning to Manhattan Park in September. It is a privilege and pleasure to work with your children, alongside you.
I am happy to share that our Nutrition Program has begun. Families would have received information about the program a few weeks ago. The school works in partnership with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success to offer morning snacks to every student. If you have not done so already, please return the permission form indicating any dietary restrictions and/or allergies. If you do not want your child to participate in the Nutrition Program, please let the office know. The program receives only partial funding from the City and Province. We rely on family and community support to help sustain the program for the full school year. If you would like to contribute, please donate online at https://tfss.ca/donate/schoolsites-snp/ or scan the QR code below. Please do not send cash to the school. Thank you for supporting the Nutrition Program at Manhattan Park.
I am pleased to share that Music Therapist Ms. Victoria from Music for Every Child (MFEC) is working with students in our Intensive Support Program. Thank you, Ms. Amanda, for bringing this wonderful learning experience to our staff and students every Monday for the rest of this school year.
On April 13, Manhattan Park was fortunate to have Makhena Rankin Guerin perform medicinal dances for us, which told a story. She is a two-spirit hoop dancer with Anishinaabe/Algonquin roots. As a member of the Abitibiwinni First Nation, Makena is dedicated to preserving and continuing her Indigenous culture for future generations. Thank you, Mr. Chen, for organizing!
Please mark May 28 from 6-7 p.m. Doors will open for our Spring Concert! Students and staff have been preparing for weeks. We hope you will be able to join us for the evening. Please click on the School Council link https://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/manhattan/School-Council to learn about the Bake Sale that will be happening before and after the concert!
There is much happening at Manhattan Park as the Dance Club, Performing Arts Leaders Team, Homework/Math Club continue to meet either during the lunch hour or after school. Thank you to Ms. Skrivanos, Mr. Chen, Ms. Wojtowicz, and Ms. Kapilan for supporting these extra-curricular activities. On April 23, Skills Ontario provided an informative session for our Grade 5/6 students to empower them to discover, explore, and consider skilled trades and technologies. Another fun day for Rooms 2, 3, and 5 is June 4, when our students can participate in physical activities at Variety Village for the annual Barrier Free Games.
May is TDSB Asian Heritage Month, it is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of Asian Canadian communities. It recognizes individuals and groups who have contributed to shaping Canada’s past and present, while also highlighting emerging voices and future leaders. May is also Jewish Heritage Month. The Province of Ontario recognizes the important contributions that Jewish Canadians have made to Ontario’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric. Jewish Heritage Month is an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Jewish Canadians have played, and continue to play, in communities across Ontario. By learning about and celebrating these diverse perspectives, schools can promote inclusivity, equity, and a deeper appreciation for Asian and Jewish Canadians.
