"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning." - Albert Einstein

The science teachers at North Albion Collegiate Institute are committed to providing students ample opportunities to expand their knowledge in various branches of science, and to develop a deeper curiosity of the world around them. Our goal is to nurture an environment in which students develop a skill of critically thinking about the scientific processes that exist on earth and beyond. Our junior science courses create a foundation in chemistry, physics, and biology that can be further explored by students in our senior courses, post-secondary education, and everyday life. Our programs are designed to aid students in their journey to becoming young adults that are curious, collaborative, and the leaders of tomorrow.

Grade 9 STEM Program

This year our school is offering a STEM component in Grade 9 Science course (SNC1W) as part of the STEM package including our technology and Mathematics courses. Students will engage in learning experiences which are based on Real Life Problem Solving. These problems are based on UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students in Grade 9 Science Course will use the Engineering Design Process; and build and code a prototype of a device that will solve the problem chosen by them.

Next year, we have plans to extend the STEM program to all science courses.

Enrichment Opportunities

Science department provides enrichment opportunities to students by organising their participation in various science contests. Regular announcements are made to inform students about registration dates.

  1. Sir Isaac Newton Exam
  2. OAPT Grade 11 Physics Contest
  3. Chem 13 News Exam
  4. Avogadro Exam
  5. National Biology Competition (if running)

Our department organises annual Science Challenge for grade 7 and 8 students from our feeder schools. This event is run by our senior students under the supervision of science teachers. This is a valuable experience for the senior students for their post secondary education. This year we are holding a Science (STEM) challenge which will include engaging activities from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
