School Council

School Advisory Council

School councils are an excellent way for parents to get involved in their child`s education. Our school has an elected school council that is an important forum for involving all members of the school community in issues that affect the education of students. The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, appointed community members, the principal, and a general membership which includes all parent of children attending the school. The school council advises the principal on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals. Investment in Education

Rosethorn Junior School is a very special school - our staff and school community work hard to make sure that our children have a wide range of experiences and programs to help them thrive and grow. But did you know it takes a significant amount of fundraising to make these things happen?

The cost of essential classroom learning materials, combined with technology upgrades, equipment purchases and enrichment programs/activities,(i.e., Scientists in School, Kiwanis, athletic equipment maintenance, music accompanist, etc.) far surpasses the school budget allocated to the school.

At Rosethorn, Parent Advisory Council works hard to go above and beyond by including these valuable programs and activities in the School Council annual operating budget. Most of these activities are 100% funded by you - our amazing Rosethorn families. In order to limit the number of fundraising activities we do; School Council launched our Direct Ask Fundraising Drive to make it easier for families and to be able to provide a tax receipt/deduction for donations. This is our main fundraising drive of the year and is used to fund our annual operating budget.

Double bonus:

Get your tax receipt instantly and you can use your credit card.

Parent Council welcomes ideas from the School Community on where the dollars can be spent. There are ample opportunities to contribute and volunteer to see your ideas come into fruition.

Be on the lookout this year for a Parent Survey and as always, do come out to a Parent Council meeting to participate. We are a great parent and student community and welcome the input and participation of all families! It takes a village!!
