Library Learning Commons

The FHCI Library Learning Commons is a safe and inclusive space in the school that fosters independence and collaboration through inquiry-based learning with a robust and expertly curated collection of in-library and online resources. Here, students can access and create work for all areas of curriculum, as well as for extracurricular weekend and summer enjoyment.

Our team of teacher librarians provide a wide range of support to all. Students can inquire about a variety of genres, research skills, online resources, in house and Virtual Library resources, chromebooks and other technical and digital support.

With a wide variety of online books, databases and media, students are able to navigate their way through a variety of resources in any particular subject field, class or assignment. Electronic encyclopedias and full-text databases are accessible via the online library on the school network and from home with TDSB password access. The Virtual Library is designed to help students find:

  • Curriculum relevant online resources/tools to help with projects, homework, and to encourage reading and viewing in a variety of formats for K to 12 learners - eBooks, database articles, streamed media, and online tools (see Read Watch Learn and Find)

  • Subject links to help with research, math practice, games, homework (see Find)

  • Resources for starting an inquiry or research project (see Inquiry and Find)

  • Reading suggestions and student book reviews (see Read and Just Read It)

Many of the resources on the Virtual Library have been licenced only for use by TDSB students and their families.  Look for the Passwords and Information page which includes passwords students will need to access many of the Virtual Library resources from home.  Students can always access these passwords using their TDSB credentials to log in.
