Our School Council plays a vital role. It provides a forum through which parents can contribute to improving student achievement, school performance and accountability, as well as overall school life. Parental involvement in a child’s education has been shown to have a significant effect on his or her success. The partnership of school and parent representatives on a School Council helps to foster mutual understanding and positive interactions between a school and its community. Everyone wins! Personal advantages of becoming involved on our School Council are: being an important partner and advocate with respect to your child’s education; having a vehicle through which to express opinions and recommendations; being in the know and finding out what is happening at FHCI as well as at the ward, TDSB, and provincial levels with respect to education; experiencing camaraderie with other parents; fundraising for equipment to enrich student life; hearing the Principal’s and teacher rep’s reports; and having opportunities to dialogue with both our Principal, and Teacher Rep; and becoming comfortable with FHCI
