Principal's Message

Happy Friday Birch Cliff families,

While the warmer temperatures seem to have returned the past few days, we remain focused on the upcoming winter season and holiday! It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to get together to celebrate the holidays  as a school community. We are happy to say that this year our school will be celebrating with our Meet with Santa event on Thursday, Dec 8th. While this is not the same as our traditional Holiday concert, we are excited to showcase vendors, take photos with Santa and have our Holiday Choir and our Ukulele group entertain us with some songs. We look forward to welcoming back our Holiday concert next year when our community is a bit more comfortable with being in the gym together for a larger group gathering. We hope all of our families are able to come on Dec 8th between 3:15- 7pm & enjoy the planned events, a great photo op (4:30-6:30) and even get some dinner. Our school will be decorated with Holiday Art & families will have a chance to wander & see their child(ren)s artwork outside their classrooms.

And speaking of holiday festivities… here are your upcoming Spirit days for the month of December- please mark your calendars but we will also send out reminders the day prior.

Thurs. Dec 1- Bedazzle / Sparkle day- let’s kick this off with the sparkle & light of the season

Fri. Dec. 9- Festive Hat day- will it be a simple toque or a wild holiday creation- it’s up to you!

Fri. Dec 16- Festive Colour day- make it green & red or blue, white & yellow – whatever the holidays mean to you dress it up

Fri. Dec 23- Last day before the holiday can only mean one day… PJ Day! As a special highlight we will also play carols for entry every morning this last week before the break.

Is your child in grade 5-8 & do they and you love to read? Please join our Birch Cliff family book club. Between the end of November and the end of February (2023!) we will be reading The Barren Grounds; there will be some ‘check-in’ times with lunch meetings for students & then a final celebration with families at the end of February. Each of the meetings will involve fun, interactive activities for students about what they have been reading and our final celebration party will be held after school with food, drinks & even some prizes! Interested students had a meeting at AM recess on Thursday and brought how a permission form; if your family is interested & a form didn’t come home, here it is- please fill out & return. /Portals/birchcliff/docs/book%20club%20intro%20letter.pdf

From TPH: On Wednesday October 26th, Toronto Public Health began sending letters to parents/guardians of Grade 1 and 2 students who are not up-to-date with their vaccines according to TPH's records. Letters will be sent directly to parents/guardians to inform families about potentially missing vaccine doses or missing records.

Vaccination is important for the health of each student and the school community. If you receive a letter for your child, please:

  • Make an appointment with a health care provider to get vaccinated for free.
  • Report your child's vaccination online at:
  • Contact Toronto Public Health if you have any questions via email at or by phone at 416-338-7600.
  • Find more information about reporting vaccinations and the ISPA here.

Wishing everyone a great weekend; a reminder that next Friday (Dec 2nd) is a PA day so no school for students.
