Principal's Message

Happy March Break Birch Cliff families,

A fun week with Spirit Days and X-movement this week! Wishing everyone a nice March Break whether you are spending it at home or travelling- be safe and have fun!

On Tuesday, March 21st, we will once again support World Down Syndrome Day by encouraging students and staff to “Rock Your Socks” by wearing fun, colourful and maybe even mis-matched socks. “On this day, people with Down syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and participate in activities and events to raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome. The date is special because 3-21 represents Trisomy 21, the medical term for Down syndrome, which is the third replication of the 21st chromosome.” (https://dsat.ca/wdsd/). Coming up in the next few weeks we will also acknowledge Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness (March 27th), Autism Awareness Day (April 2) and the International Day of Pink (April 12).

A few deadlines will be happening over the break with all Purdy’s orders due on Tues. March 14th (delivery is Thurs. March 30th) (our campaign number is 104034) and our BC Pride Spirit Wear order cut off on Sunday, March 19th for delivery prior to International Day of Pink (https://birchcliff-dayofpink.itemorder.com/shop/home/ ).

A quick look at the week we come back- IEP’s for Term 2 will be emailed out to families for whom this applies, Persian New Year on March 20th,  we have an SAC meeting on March 22nd @ 6:30pm, Ramadan begins for families who celebrate at sundown on March 22nd, our Family Book Club meets after school on March 23rd and we have a pizza day on March 24th.

Enjoy the break and see everyone back on Monday, March 20th.
