Dear Families,

April is living up to its reputation as a wet month with interchangeable weather conditions. Please send your children to school with a raincoat and other rain gear on those rainy days. We recommend that you explore various TDSB summer programs that are open for registration at the TDSB. Programs include:

Elementary Summer School

Special Education and Inclusion Summer Program

Summer Music & Art Camps

The focus of the 2023 Elementary Literacy and Numeracy Summer School Program is to continue student engagement through July. Programs, embedded in Literacy and Numeracy, are developed by the summer school principal to reflect the local school focus.

Programs are offered in person to students in K to Grade 8, from July 4 to July 28, 2023. This year, one remote program will also be available. For more information, including a list of schools and online registration forms, visit our summer school program page.

Dental Screening

Toronto Public Health (TPH) offers students a screening program to identify children with oral health problems, in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health requirements for mandatory health programs.

The screening is an assessment by an oral health staff member using a separate sterilized mouth mirror for each child. The oral health staff member will assess the need for topical fluoride, scaling, sealant and any other obvious dental needs.

As a follow-up to the screening, only parents whose children were screened will be notified, and a note to that effect will be sent home with their child for your information and action. You may also receive a phone call from TPH dental staff to assist you in accessing care.

Please be advised that this screening assessment does not replace the dental examination done by a dentist. Bowmore Rd has been scheduled for April 25 - May 9, 2024: If you do not wish your child/ren to be screened, please inform the school staff and the classroom teacher.

For additional information, please visit us at http://www.toronto.ca/health/dental/children_youth.htm Please note that all personal health information (PHI) collected during the screening process will be protected under the provincial Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

Final Grade 7 & 8 Vaccination Clinic

Your final vaccination clinic is scheduled on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 9 am- 2:45 pm

The following vaccines will be given:

• Second dose of hepatitis B and human papillomavirus vaccines to Grade 7 students

• Hepatitis B, meningococcal, and human papillomavirus vaccines to Grade 7 & 8 students who missed the 1st clinic.

Track and Field: Track and Field tryouts have begun. For all Bowmore students grades 4 to 8 only. We are sorry for the confusion on the EMA form. EMA says all grades, it means any grade from 4-8. We will be continuing tryouts next week. If your child has signed EMA and is interested in Long distance runs and throwing events, tryouts are Monday and Wednesday. If your child is interested in short distances and relay, tryouts are Tuesday and Thursday. Please note if rain is falling from the sky, practice is CANCELED.
