Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute welcomes a diverse student population from around the world each semester.  Students who are entering the Ontario school system for the first time are placed in our ESL program according to their level of English language proficiency.   Our school offers courses that range from beginner to intermediate levels (Level A-E). Some students also take courses that are not developed specifically for students learning English as a second language.   In these cases, teachers support students through a number of strategies, some of which include providing extra-time to complete work, allowing for the use of first language dictionaries and translators and using visual  anchor charts to teach new ideas. Students learning English as a second language quickly assimilate into their classes and school activities and enjoy their experiences as a part of our school community.
