As the first few years are particularly difficult for newcomer students and their families, the Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) program aims at providing support by connecting families to services available in the community as well as the school system. By facilitating the settlement and integration of newcomer families into Canadian society, the SEPT program hopes to promote student performance as well.

Since September 1999, settlement workers from Centre for Information and Community Services (CICS) have been stationed at a number of schools in North York to work with newcomer families. The Centre for Information and Community Services (CICS) is funded by three levels of government and the United Way to provide a wide range of settlement programs and services. Our staff speaks 20 languages collectively and we serve immigrants of all age groups. CICS is a partner in The Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Catholic District School (TCDSB). The program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
