In this year’s AAPT PHYSICSBOWL contest there were more than 4000 students participating from nearly 270 schools across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Spain, and Thailand! Congratulation to Zhongyi Wei, who achieved 11th position internationally and 1st position in the region. Bravo! And, results of the OAPT grade 11 Physics provincial contest are also out! Don Mills students’ achievement in this contest is outstanding. Congratulation to Zhongyi Wei for achieving 2nd position and Raymond Fan achieving 3d position! The following students were among top 10. Frank Liu in 6th and Daniel Lin in 8th position. Special thanks to teacher Vida Ghaem-Maghami for leading these opportunities for DMCI students to gain recognition on the international stage in science.

DMCI Student Shannon Gui won the $500 First Place Core French Award at the annual "le concours / festival d'art oratoire" held at York University's bilingual campus, Glendon College in Toronto. The event is organized by Canadian Parents for French (Ontario) and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers' Association. Congratulations Shannon! www.on.cpf.ca.

The OTSC - Ontario Technological Skills Competion - was held in Waterloo, Ontario and we have a winner! In the category of Job Interview our very own Grace Yin won a Silver medal placement. Fantastic work Grace and add that one to your resume! Special thanks to Ms. Penelope Dunlop for her encouragement and facilitation for Grace to train and compete in this major event. Next year we are planning to compete in more categories at the TDSB and hopefully further levels to National.

From the Music Department: Monday May 6 is "Jazz Night at Lula"! This evening features our Jazz Band and our Jazz Combo. In addition, we welcome guest vocalist Teodora Pasca. The evening begins at 7:00pm at Lula Lounge, which is at Dundas & Dufferin. Hope to see lots of jazz fans out for a wonderful evening!

CONGRATULATIONS, DMCI DEBATERS! Congratulations to our Senior Debating Team that got an enviable SECOND PLACE at the ONTARIO PRO-CON DEBATING TOURNAMENT on Saturday, April 27th! Our graduating seniors Jeremy Wang, Hirad Zafari, Isabelle Yang and Peter Hu made us all proud. Well done and way to go, DMCI debaters!

Grace Yin, a grade 10 student at DMCI won the Gold Medal in the March 25th TDSB Job Interview Skills Competition and will be representing DMCI and the TDSB at the Ontario Skills Competition in Waterloo. If she competes well there, she may also qualify for the national competition in Vancouver. Good luck Grace and thank you to Ms. Dunlop for running the TDSB event.

This was a big news day! Lots is going on at DMCI!
22 submissions were confirmed entered in the Ontario Mining Association 'So You Think You Know Mining' contest where students can win up to $7500 for an amazing video in a variety of categories. We'll post how to vote for your favourite as soon as the voting starts online!
60 DMCI students visited the GAME ON 2.0 Exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre to analyse the way that museum exhibits are designed, created, and researched production steps using communications technology skills. They completed photo and video tasks and competed in a research scavenger hunt. They studied the history and culture of gaming, computer technology development, and product usability, and had some fun playing the games as well.
April 8th there is a TGJ field trip heading to the CBC for the taping of the George Strombolopolous show to look at how a live studio recording setup works.
April 10th, 60 TEJ / ICS computer engineering program students will be heading to University of Toronto to attend a special introduction to give high school students a glimpse into what it is like to study computer science at the university level, with the Department of Computer & Mathematical Sciences. They will be doing fun activities planned including Python programming exercises, a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) demonstration, a sample lecture and a campus tour.
As well, entries are coming in for the TDSB Skills Competition happening next Monday, March 25th.

DMCI announces it is hosting two categories of the TDSB Skills Competitions on March 25th! Mechanical CAD and Job Interview. Applications to participate must be in by March 19th to Ms. Dunlop in the Tech Design Area. Students who excel may go onto the Ontario Skills Competition level. Good luck Don Mills students!

AWARDS: Student Katarina Pejovic was awarded TWO major prizes for her writing by the Dorothy Shoemaker Literary Awards, sponsored by the Kitchener Public Library & the KW Community Foundation. She'll be attending their gala in April as an honored guest, and invited to the stage to read excerpts to the audience.
1st prize in the Youth Division: Prose entry The Doll Gallery - Cash Prize and publication in The Changing Image.
2nd prize in the Youth Division: Poetry entry Sympathy for the Moth - Cash Prize and publication in The Changing Image.
