Redirected Addresses

Since June 2018, the TDSb has been redirecting students from new residential developments being built in the Eglinton to Whitney Junior Public School and Rippleton Public School.

Please keep in mind that newly constructed buildings often have their addresses changed by developers between the planning and occupancy stages.

What if I already live at a redirected address?

If you live at one of the redirected addresses and your child isn’t registered at Eglinton, you will be redirected to your home school below to register your child.
If you live in one of the redirected addresses and your child is currently attending Eglinton PS, they will finish the current school year at Eglinton and then transition to their home school for the start of the next school year in September.

What happens if we move into a redirected address?

As you may know, there are a number of new buildings (planned, under construction or now being occupied) in our attendance area that are redirected to a school other than Eglinton PS. Unfortunately, it does happen that families already attending our school may move into one of these addresses. It also happens that, because building addresses can change once they start to become occupied, new families who live at these buildings may have registered to attend Eglinton Public School.

Our practice is to look at the specific context for each family as we look at supporting their transition to their home school. We will consider the situation of each family, but here are the general criteria we will follow for families who live in redirected addresses:

If your child is attending Eglinton PS and also attends CECC, they will finish the current school year and then transition to their home school for the start of the next school year.
If your child attends Eglinton PS, but does not attend CECC, we will work with you to determine a reasonable point to transition to your home school (e.g., at the end of a reporting period, after winter break/March break, etc.)
If you live at one of the redirected addresses, and your child isn’t registered at Eglinton or CECC, you will be redirected to your home school to register your child.

How Did My Building's Address Change?

(Feb. 9, 2020) In June 2018, the TDSB Special Planning and Priorities committee recommended that Whitney Junior Public School be the designated elementary school for students residing in 9 residential developments being built in the Eglinton Public School attendance area. We published those addresses in an Update last year and also on our school website.

Those addresses can be (and often are) changed by developers. When developers submit applications to construct new residential buildings in the City, they use the existing municipal address associated with the parcel(s) of land that they are looking to redevelop. The municipal address of a proposed development could be revised prior to project completion for a variety of reasons, such as when the new construction results in an additional building or the main entrance to the building is on a different street.

In those instances, the developer would submit an application to the City requesting the revision. Once approved, the City would forward the notice of the revised address to the TDSB so that staff can update the new address in the TDSB street guide. Addresses contained in any Board-approved development redirection report could potentially change prior to the buildings’ completion.
