December 15

Dance-A-Thon: Our annual dance-a-thon is happening on Thursday, December 19 . Students from all grades will participate in a glow-in-the-dark dance party in the gym to celebrate a wonderful first term at Eglinton!

The dance-a-thon is a fundraiser for our School Council.  Our Council fundraises to enrichment programs, technology, and materials for the school. Sponsors can also donate online at www.professorjamz.com/eglinton  or you can donate directly to the school via our School Cash Online account: https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/457/153/false/true.

You can enter the donation amount and select Eglinton Junior Public School (1311) from the drop down menu at Fund Destination. You will need to create an account with your mailing address and the address is used to generate the donation tax receipt. Tax receipts are issued for any amount donated.

You can also support the school by sending your child with money to purchase items from the Cosmic Store to wear at the dance.  Items range from $1-$5.

If you would like to volunteer to help at this event, please email eglintonparents@gmail.com. We need volunteers in 1-hour shifts to help at the Cosmic Store.

Girls Volleyball Tryouts : Grade 3, 4 and 5 girls are invited to try out for the girls’ volleyball team this year. We are offering 3 tryout dates: Thursday December 19, 2019 @ 745 am, Friday, December 20 @ 745am and Monday January 6, 2020 @ 745am.

What Happens in Severe Weather? Sometimes, when the weather outside is severe, the TDSB may decide to cancel transportation to schools and sometimes to close schools. This can occur before the beginning of the school day or, if conditions become severe after school starts, it may happen during the school day. The Board has an updated procedure to guide decisions and operations in the event of inclement weather. If the weather is really severe, please keep your children at home if possible.

The decision to close schools is made by the Director of Education. Closure of schools or cancellation of transportation services will be announced at 6:30 a.m. onward on AM and FM Radio Stations as well as the Weather Network, and other local TV stations.

Go to https://www.tdsb.on.ca/About-Us/Severe-Weather/Snow-Cold-Weather for more information on what happens when weather conditions are severe and schools might close.

Extended Absences for December or January: The Winter Break will soon be here. The last day of classes is Friday, December 20, 2019, and school starts again on Monday, January 6, 2020. If your child will be leaving school before December 20 or will be returning later than January 6, please email the office so we are aware of the extended absence. (Otherwise the attendance system will make calls until it reaches you.) Please send an email to Cathie.Cordner@tdsb.on.ca and Vasiliki.Gioris@tdsb.on.ca , with a copy to Ian.Wilson@tdsb.on.ca and Elizabeth.Aiello@tdsb.on.ca so that we are aware of the absence.
