It is my honour to join the Forest Hill community; a community steeped in tradition and strong academics,  which  celebrates each student's diversity and learning path.  I look forward to welcoming our students to their first day of school on Thursday, September 9th.

As a parent and educator, I know only too well the concerns of returning our children to school during these challenging times.  Rest assured that student health is our top priority. The TDSB is presently working to revise its protocols to ensure the safe return to our school.  Precise information on the procedures for entering our buildings will be forthcoming; however, it is clear that all students and staff entering Forest Hill will be required to wear a mask, screen for Covid-19, and check in upon arrival at school.

We have added the ‘View from the Hill’ as our direct communication with parents/guardians to keep you apprised of what’s going on at Forest Hill. The school website will continue to be an excellent source for information on all things Forest Hill!

Following this message you will find information on Covid-19 vaccination clinics, the month at a glance, noteworthy dates for the year, and a message from the School Council Chair.  Additionally, I would like to draw your attention to a few important items:

Head Start to High School - Grade 9 Orientation

We are hosting our incoming grade 9 students in-person for our Head Start to High School on Monday, August 30th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Student registration is required.  Please complete the Grade 9 Orientation Registration by noon, Thursday, August 26th to indicate that your grade 9 student is  planning to join us.

Daily Schedule

All TDSB schools will run the same daily schedule with the school day beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 2:45 p.m.  Link to the TDSB Daily Schedule for more information.

Student Timetables

As was the process last year, we will be sharing student timetables via the TDSB Connects App - which can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple App Store.  Once downloaded, students will use their TDSB credentials to access their timetable.  Timetables will be unlocked and available to students at the end of the day on Tuesday, August 31st. Please note that students new to the TDSB will receive a separate email from their Vice Principal indicating their TDSB email address and log in process.

For any timetable change requests, students are required to visit the FHCI Guidance Department website to complete the required course change form for consideration. It is important to note that many of our courses are at capacity at this time and students requesting changes related to graduation requirements will take precedent.

In-Person & Virtual Learning Options

The TDSB emailed all parents/guardians on August 5th and 9th requesting that they indicate by August 12th whether their student would be opting for in-person or virtual learning for this school year.  Students will have an opportunity to change their choice for the second semester classes in February 2022.  Our team is still working to organize and support students who opted for virtual learning and more information will be shared directly with our virtual students and their families soon.

I know there are many questions not addressed in about lockers, co-curriculars, Student Activity fees, and so on.  Our team will be working hard to provide you with information by the end of next week.  Please be patient as we seek clarity before the sharing of any information.

I am very excited to be joining the Forest Hill community and look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Yvette Duffy

Message from FHCI School Council Chair

Become a Voting Member of Council

Would you like to become more involved in the school? Please consider joining the FHCI School Council. Our School Council is made up of volunteers who are parents, guardians, administration and staff members at FHCI. Members of our School Council get the opportunity to meet other parents and guardians, learn more about how our school is run, and interact with our Principal and other administration and staff members. There are also opportunities to plan events such as educational evenings, fundraising efforts and teacher appreciation activities.

Executive members (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Fundraising Chair) of the School Council have already been elected for the 2021-2022 school year. We are now looking for parents or guardians to become 2021-2022 voting members of Council.  All parents and guardians of students attending FHCI during the 2021-2022 school year are eligible.

All FHCI parents or guardians are welcome to attend any or all of our meetings and contribute as non-Council members. However, only elected members of the School Council are entitled to vote on matters raised at School Council meetings.

To become a voting member of our School Council, please complete the self-nomination form by clicking this link:  FHCI School Council Self Nomination Form.  All forms are due Friday, September 24th, 2021.

Please join us by attending Council meetings and being a member of School Council during your student’s years at Forest Hill CI. It is truly a rewarding experience!

On behalf of School Council, we look forward to meeting all of you throughout the year!

Best wishes,

Tracy Kowal, Chair, FHCI School Council. tracy.kowal@yahoo.ca
