The Future Students Welcome Reception was a huge success last Tuesday! The new incoming students enthusiastically participated in a school-wide scavenger hunt ably led by our Prefects! Thank you to The Prefects, Production Crew, Ms. Homatidis, Ms. McKinnon, Ms. Ng, Mr. Oosterhoff, Ms. Skoutarou, along with our Masters of Ceremonies, Oren and Tessa!

Thank you as well to our SAC and staff sponsor, Ms. Pawlowski, for all their efforts on Friday’s Year End Assembly! A shout out to Carolyn and Ari, our outgoing co-presidents, who have put their heart and soul into making FHCI a wonderful place while creating fantastic memories for our students!

A special thanks as well to Tracy Kowal, School Council Chair for the last four years who will graduate in her own way this June as her youngest walks across the stage. Tracy has given countless hours to Forest Hill to support our families, staff and students. She has been a strong advocate to ensure that the voices of the community are heard. Thank you, Tracy!  Welcome to Paul Matos, who was elected as the new School Council Chair for 2023.

Congratulations once again to our graduating Class of 2023! We look forward to seeing  the graduates on Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00 pm at Toronto Pavilion located at 190 Railside Rd.  Graduates are asked to bring proof of purchase to pick up their Commencement Package, i.e. caps, gowns and tickets, this week. Commencement Packages will be available outside the main office starting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and will continue all week closing on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Examinations begin this week and all students are reminded once again to review the Examination Schedule to ensure awareness of when and where their exams will take place. Please note that students are encouraged to attend school on Mark Review Day to review their Culminating Activities and Examinations. Owing to Commencement, there are two separate Mark Review dates this year depending on which grade a student is in:

  • Mark Review Grade 12 – Monday, June 26 at 1:00 p.m.
  • Mark Review Grades 9, 10 & 11 – Wednesday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m.

Please note that final report cards will be distributed electronically on Tuesday, July 4 and the next transmission to OUAC/OCAS for grade 12 marks will occur on Thursday, July 6. Graduates are encouraged to review their uploaded marks on or after July 6. For students who are required to complete a summer school course to graduate, there will be an additional transmission on August 4. Please note that our school office is closed as of Friday, July 14 and will reopen Monday, August 21.

As the year closes, we would like to take this opportunity to solicit feedback on our communication for next year and ask that you complete this survey:  View From the Hill – Your Feedback Helps!

This will be our last newsletter for this school year, and our admin team would like to wish everyone a restful, relaxing and joyous summer! Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers and caregivers who take on the role of father in our community!

Sincerely,

Yvette Duffy, Principal            Maharukh Kootar, Vice Principal           Jaime Yamashita, Vice Principal

National Indigenous Peoples Day – Wednesday, June 21

During the month of June, the TDSB recognizes National Indigenous Peoples Day on Wednesday, June 21. Many First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples celebrate the Summer Solstice on this day when the Sun travels along its northernmost path and is the longest day of the year.  It is a time that reminds us to remain grounded, humble and appreciative. It is usually celebrated by coming together with family and community for a feast of traditional foods which signify a connection to the land and animals. This day is of great significance for many Indigenous Peoples in the country we call Canada today.

Forest Hill is proud to host our Head Start to High School on Tuesday, August 29 to welcome our incoming grade 9 students. The morning will be filled with games, activities, pizza and fun! Messages from Guidance

TDSB Summer School

TDSB registration for July Summer School and elearning has closed.  Any students with outstanding consent forms must return them to their Guidance Counsellor asap.  No appointment is needed to return the form.  August elearning registration is still open.  Please visit the TDSB eLearning website for more information and registration.

Student Timetables for September 2023

The school is at the final stages of building student schedules for the next school year. It is our responsibility to make sure all students have their compulsory courses and required number of courses per grade scheduled before releasing timetables to students.  At the end of August, students will be able to access their timetables via TDSB Connects. At that time, students who wish to make changes to their timetable may request through a google form. The link will be sent to families once timetables have been released in August. Thank you for your patience!

OCAS & OUAC Transmission Dates

External credits will be added to a student’s record only when an official report card is received. The deadline for receiving final reports for external credits is Friday, June 22 for these to be entered by Forest Hill CI on a student’s record in time for July upload to OCAS/OUAC. Our Guidance department closes on Friday, June 30 and our Guidance Counsellors are not available in the summer. Therefore, it is important that students who require external credits to be entered by the school submit these by June 22. Credits taken in the summer within the TDSB will be managed by the TDSB Summer or eLearning Guidance departments. External credits need to be managed by the private company delivering the credits. Please note the following important OCAS/OUAC dates:

  • OCAS transmission dates are: July 7, August 4 and August 31
  • OUAC transmission dates are: July 6, August 4, & August 31

Worth Mentioning Again…

Construction on FHCI Property This Summer

A construction project is getting underway on the north side of the school and will continue throughout the summer months. The scope of work includes improvements to the north of the school building, all parking lots and the turning circle at the front, along with all student gathering areas on the north and south sides of the building.

The work will include upgrades to the north of the school including the installation of a new basketball court and a turfed area for soccer, the creation of an armour stone seat wall and the construction of new gathering spaces for students. The courtyard will also be upgraded to allow for better accessibility, the creation of sun shelters, and the installation of an irrigation system to allow for new plantings.  At the front of the school, the circular drive will be repaved, an additional flag pole will be installed, the parking area will be revamped, and the student gathering areas will be upgraded.

Fencing of the north end of the property went up last week.  Access to the beltline will only be available from the east side of the school using the driveway that runs along the tennis courts. The circular drive will not be accessible starting in July.
