Music

The MCI Music program can best be described as a traditional performance-based music program. Approximately, 25% of the school is enrolled in the Music Program and instruction is offered for traditional Concert Band instrumentation and Orchestral Strings. The MCI Music program has a tradition of musical excellence and enthusiasm.

The courses offered at MCI are designed to both challenge and inspire young musicians. A strong theory component, mixed with technical studies and reputable repertoire, are key ingredients to building stronger musicianship. We offer courses that cover all orchestral instruments, including brass, woodwinds, percussion and strings, as well as extra-curricular ensembles for music students in all grades.

Grade 9 students with previous performance experience on their instrument may choose either Band or String courses.  Students who have no previous experience on an instrument can be accommodated in the Beginning Band course.

Our co-curricular and extra-curricular ensembles are featured in our two annual concerts, "Festive Interlude" and "Fantasia." Our large ensembles participate in festivals each year and our senior music students travel on an international performance tour every second year. Please click on the photos below to see our young musicians in action under the direction, guidance, and leadership of Mrs. McAskill and Mr. Stoica.

Goals of the Music Program

  • To create a learning environment that is positive and inspiring for all students
  • To promote self-discipline, teamwork, and a solid work ethic
  • To demonstrate model citizenship by being musically active in the greater community
  • To perform every note, every piece, every concert, every year, to the best of our abilities
