Robotics and Automation, from the simplest of home automation devices to large scale industrial processes, robotics is everywhere. This course will help prepare you for university or college programs in mechanical, mechatronics, computer, and electrical engineering amongst others. Diverse technologies such as PLCs, embedded computing (Arduinos), fluid power, AC and DC electrical control, steppers motors, advanced electrical interfacing using MOSFETS, BJTs, SCRs, Triacs, optoelectronics, and thermal management in power systems are covered in this course. The senior course culminates in the design and construction of a fully functional industrial automated system (gr. 12) or a demonstration firefighting robot (gr. 11). The course also supports the school’s FIRST robotics team, one of the most advanced international competitions in robotics systems.
