Seamless Mandarin International Language Elementary  Please join us for our SMILE program open house on January 29, 2019 at 6:30.

Thank you for considering the Seamless Mandarin International Language Elementary (SMILE) program for your child. SMILE is the only program of its kind in Ontario where English and Mandarin instruction are integrated to deliver the elementary Ontario curriculum.  SMILE delivers Mandarin instruction to align with the Ontario curriculum. SMILE may be suitable for students from grades one to eight, from all language backgrounds.

Mandarin is fast becoming a global language of commerce and business. People equipped with Mandarin proficiency are more competitive in business and other professional occupations. (Bloomberg, 2011)

In 2013, SMILE was conceived by Ryerson Community School parents to offer a rigorous, academic Mandarin instruction program to enhance the Ontario curriculum. This year SMILE has expanded to Grade 7. For the 2019-2020 school year, the smile program will include Grade 8.

SMILE allows students to study and to apply the integration of science, mathematics, inquiry learning at the elementary level, while fostering literacy skills in English and Mandarin.

We would be pleased to receive your application for SMILE commencing September 2019. Ryerson Community School is known for providing a strong foundation in Science, Mathematics and Language Arts Education.

SMILE is made up of three teaching modules.
