Volunteering at The Waterfront

Volunteering

Volunteers play an important role in supporting school activities. Depending on the frequency and nature of their involvement, different requirements may apply. Thus, there are three types of volunteers with the TDSB:

  • Casual Volunteers:

Casual volunteers assist occasionally with various school activities. At the principal’s discretion, they will be required to provide a Police Reference Check (PRC), including a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). Casual volunteers are generally defined as those who volunteer fewer than three times in a school year.

  • Regular Volunteers:

Regular volunteers assist on a consistent, scheduled, or overnight basis. These volunteers are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). Regular volunteers include those participating in overnight events, volunteering three or more times in a school year, or expected to do so.

  • Returning Volunteers:

Returning volunteers who have already provided a current and valid VSC with the TDSB must complete an Annual Offence Declaration (“AOD”) each year. This is an update to a person’s PRC information on file declaring any new criminal code convictions. There is no cost associated with the AOD.

 Starting the Process

  • Drop by the office to complete the Volunteer Application Form (It requires two references).
  • If we move forward, we will get you to do a Vulnerable Sector Check with Toronto Police Services and give you the appropriate code to do so.
