Principal's Message

Wednesday, September 8, 2021

Dear Givins/Shaw Community:

Welcome to what we hope is a safe, healthy, engaging, fun, and open school year.

Our entire staff has been working for weeks now in preparation for the return of so many of our Givins/Shaw students to our actual, physical, tactile, real school. We are extremely excited to meet your children and see so many of you on Thursday, September 9.

The families who were with us last year at Givins/Shaw may recall that our start times and our dismissal times have changed this year. The entry bell will ring at 8:20 and classes will start at 8:25 a.m. Students will be eating with their teachers during instructional time but the lunch break will be from 11:10 a.m. until noon. We will dismiss at 2:45 p.m. Your child(ren)’s home room teacher will connect with you regarding entry and dismissal procedures. Please remember that only staff and students are to be on the school's grounds. We ask our families to remain on the sidewalks.

Needless to say, everyone’s health, well-being, and safety will be our main focus as we start the school year. We encourage you to continue to check our school’s website, www.givinsshaw.com , and the Toronto District School Board’s website at, www.tdsb.on.ca , for the most recent information regarding health and safety; particularly as it pertains to COVID – 19 protocols.

The 2021/22 school year promises to be a unique experience for all of us. We are doing everything we can so our students return to the welcoming and enriching school environment they have come to expect at Givins/Shaw. If you are joining us this year for your first time, welcome to our school community and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,

Dan Taylor

Principal
